The thread on new flavors of M&M’s gave Tansu a great idea that I am following up on. Whatsay we have a candy exchange? I don’t know the particulars or the best way to organize something like this, but I miss my Crab flavored potato chips from Maryland, and, well, if we had any outside-the-US dopers join in, all the better. Bonus points for anyone in a good position to send me some Turkish Delight.
Just what kind of snacks do you eat in the U.K.? France? Anywhere else? When I was in Canada, the wrappers for KitKat bars were different. I can’t remember who mentioned it in the M&M thread, but we have the Lime Doritos here in Austin. Usually it’s chile and lime flavoring.
Are there rules regarding sending food across international borders?
Post your thoughts/concerns/ideas/local snacks someone might want.
I have nothing here worth sharing with you guys (oh, maybe dried cherries, but who cares?).
But what I want is an inside track on some East Coaster who can get me TastyCake cupcakes and Utz potato chips. While you’re at it, swing down to North Carolina and get me some Diet Cheerwine soda, okay?
Oh, those aren’t candies. Well, it’s what I want, dagnabbit.
My dad can get Tasty Kakes all the time, so I could get you some through him. Other than that, unless somebody likes Moon Pies, I haven’t much to offer.
I want some dark chocolate Aero bars, myself. Pipeliner got me hooked on 'em.
OMG! A friend and I were just talking about these this morning. What were the ones called that had peanut butter and were covered with chocolate? I didn’t realized that they still made tastykakes!
I believe TastyKake sells their goodies on line… seems to me a friend in Tucson told me about buying some. Of course, that negates the need for this thread, so pay no attention to me. But thanks for reminding me about them, since I’ll be in Md in a couple of weeks.
A thought though: Don’t think you don’t have anything to offer, snack-wise. I’d like to get some foreign countries involved in this, and they might not have what you have. Also, you might be surprised what another place has or does not have.
I’m thanking god that my host family in Finland saw fit to send me home with some foreign candy. I’m in love with Salmiakki or Turkish Peppers or whatever they call them - it’s basically just salty licorice, but it’s amazing. Also, that bag of Fazer hard candies laster almost a full day.
Also, every time I wrestle in Canada, I buy a box of Aero bars.
Say…can any Dopers help me with this one? My old roommate from Wisconsin used to bring back some kind of candy…I think it had the term “angel” in it somewhere.
It was basically a hard, orangish-colored interior, sort of the consistency of a brick with lots of air holes. It was sweet but also sort of salty, like maybe it was bicarbonate of soda which had made it puff up and get those little air bubbles. This orangish interior stuff was in irregular chunks that were then completely coated in semi-sweet chocolate.
Damn they were tasty. No idea what it’s called, how it’s made, or where I could get some.
Define “anything”, **beckwall[/]. And which big puffy mint chocolate things? Meltaways aren’t that big, so I am thinking you must mean something else. Please describe color and top-swirly and I’ll be happy to send some your way, along with a big ol’ bag o’ Jays.
Me, I want some chocolate-dipped potato chips… the thin and crispy kind with dark chocolate, not the glumped in chocolate coating until they’re roughly the size and appeal of a hocky puck kind. Someone gave me some from Hawaii years ago and I had several mouth orgasms in quick succession. Had I known they were so hard to find, I’d have made them last longer.
I think a regional food-swap is a great idea, and if no one has a problem with it, I’ll volunteer to set it up (and why? I don’t know.)
If you want to get in on this, send an email to me at bouvfood@yahoo.com with your doper name, rela name, address, and what you might be able to send to someone else.
(also tell me whether or not you’re willing to send stuff internationally.)
I don’t know if this will work out or not, but we have had positive experience with things like this in the past (white elephant and secret santa come to mind.)
