UK Dopers-Does the "ABC" Chain (Aerated Bread Co.) Stiil Exist?

I was reading an old H.G. Wells story, and the main character mentions stopping by an “ABC” restaurant for a cup of tea. I learned from reading that “ABC” stood for the aerated bread company…does this firm still exist?

There is NOTHING Wikipedia won’t answer.

(Whether it’s accurate or not, that’s a different matter, as always!)

Nope, never heard of it. Numerous enterprises have used the name "ABC"over the years, but I don’t remember a restaurant chain of that name.

I certainly remember the ABC chain of bakers, but they seem to have disappeared a few years ago.

I don’t remember ABC restaurants (I’m 55).

I do remember having egg and chips at a Lyons Corner House decades ago (by then there wasn’t an orchestra; it was more like a fast food chain).

I seem to remember references to ABC tea rooms in some of the early Christie novels - including in The ABC Murders, natch.
