Can anyone recommend a reliable website from which to purchase UK DVDs in the US? There are a couple of DVDs I’d like to get of stuff that was never released in the US market. I’ve already got a region-free DVD player, so the Region 2 format should not be a problem. Amazon.co.uk seems like the obvious choice, but are there any good US-based resellers of UK DVDs?
UK DVDs are also in PAL, so make sure you’re able to view that okay first. Some DVD players will convert, in other cases the TV will. But if you’re unlucky, neither will.
Amazon.co.uk are great, they actually deliver to me here in Australia faster than the US Amazon does, usually I receive it within a week of ordering.
Thanks for the information, but this DVD player also includes PAL-to-NTSC conversion and I tested that with a Region 3 PAL disc I borrowed from a friend.
I don’t know of any US-based retailers, but I have used www.sendit.com and www.bensonsworld.co.uk/v2/homepages/dvd.asp in the past and found them both to be reliable and quick. If I remember correctly, bensonsworld has particularly cheap shipping, and some very good sale prices.
Update: I ordered a couple of Region 2 DVDs from Amazon.co.uk. International airmail delivery was about four pounds or six dollars and I received them today, after about a week. So it was all really quite painless. I may do it again as there are a couple of other UK DVDs I want.
For example, there was a nine-hour Royal Shakespeare Company production of Nicholas Nickelby done on stage in 1982 that was filmed and shown on PBS in the US. It’s available on Region 1 DVD from A&E, but the reviews on Amazon.com indicate that it’s been cut up for broadcast in one-hour segments, while the UK Region 2 DVD version is more intact. In fact, I think I can get the UK version for less money, even with the international shipping.
you could try cd-wow they deliver free worldwide.
