UK EU In/Out referendum-:Polling day thread.

Maybe it’s BBC America news. My bad.

I notice that the margin so far is very narrow. A lot of jurisdictions here in America automatically do a recount if the margin is less than a certain amount–typically half a percent. Does the UK have anything like that?

Hey Mrs Merkel. Have a strong coffee, it’s not ending anytime soon.

I think I agree. Even here in the threads about this issue, the ‘remain’ people are quick to write down how they voted. ‘Leave’ people I think are more reticent to do so.

Last general election it was the same. The result came as a surprise probably because saying that you are conservative to random people might came out as less social friendly, I would guess.

It’s a good point but this isn’t first past the post, it’s total votes nationally. Just one national count.

Its also not party political in the direct sense. No one is being elected, etc.

BBC projecting 75% chance of “Leave” victory.

Probably BBC World News. I was streaming directly from the BBC in the UK, but I was having too many connection issues. The video on BBC World News is the same as BBC One.

Unfortunately, on Comcast BBC World News is not in HD.

If some party asks for one, and the electoral officer agrees then yes. It has to be really close though. This is a binary vote, so seems unlikely

It’s not an ignorant question. As I understand it Parliament can override this result. However, not many MP’s would have the courage to do so. MP’s are already viewed as out of touch. Overriding the result would likely lead to allsorts of constitutional pressures and the decimation of many MP’s at the next election(likely to be very soon).

Not obvious to this Murica focused American, do tell? What horrors will follow for Ireland?

Thank you. Another question…since this is a parliamentary system, would the PM call for new elections and/or resign since he advocated for Remain and the voters rejected him (if that indeed happens)?

The pound is flirting with the bottom lows again (6% fall since 3 and half hours ago).

Leave 300k ahead.

Stock market will open at least 6% down, has to got to -10%.

Fuck Berlin

Leave looking unbeatable.

With 214 results yet to call England is 54% Leave, Northern Ireland is 46% Leave, Scotland 38% Leave and Wales 54% Leave.

Unless Remain has a bucket of safe ridings up their sleeve, sorry buds but you’re gone.

Was this referendum subject to the UK’s strict campaign finance laws, or not because there were no candidates as such?

They have inner London, the parts that haven’t yet declared. They need the cities of Manchester and Birmingham at least - and they’re not going to get those.

We are leaving. It is historic. Europe won’t be the same again. Question is; is it a domino.

ITV (not BBC–on CSPAN in the US) says 80% probably of Leave win.

This is the big elephant in the room, and the answer is not entirely clear. The feeling is that the PM having lost will resign as PM sooner or later. Probably sooner. The Govt can then choose whichever MP it wishes as Prime Minister. He or she will likely call another election before too long. It’s rather problematic for a PM to be PM without having gone through a General Election. Nothing in the constitution says he/she must call an election, but the country usually grumbles if he or she does not.

Pound taking a beating, 8% down and going further.

Leave 500k ahead.

ETA: Bugger me, 9% down!
