UK football, season 2008/09, forecasts

Liverpool certainly are making a statement in the League. Interesting to see how Manchester United react in their game coming up.

FSC showing Chelsea against Bolton for some reason. Talk about a game that is relatively meaningless.

Chelsea proving that 4 - 0 isn’t a safe lead!!! GOOOOOOOOOOO Wanderers!!! It’s definitely GAME ON!

Chelsea hang on. But they had to survive an assault at the end. Good finish to that one!
oh, and I notice that Rochdale won again. Up the Dale!

You may be interested to know that Dales next match is live on Sky.

The club have made it a “Fun Day” for all the family, all sorts of goodies going on at Spotland and I expect a packed house.

Me? I’m watching it on TV

Up the Dale

Someone posted this on www.b3ta.com ages ago, titled “football the Cristiano Ronaldo way”:

What a fucking abysmal performance by City against Fulham, absolutely terrible.

Again we go a goal up and again we get stuffed 3-1.

Apart from Ireland and Zabaleta the rest of the players wearing City shirts had no idea, none at all.

It’s all very well saying players lose games, the manager picks the players and it’s painfully obvious that Hughes hasn’t a sodding clue.

On Thursday against Hamburg we haven’t a chance if the “players” have the same approach to that match as they did to this.

Wankers

I’ve been trying to give Hughes the benefit of the doubt all season, but the Hamburg game turned me against him, and it sounds like more of the same on Sunday, glad I was out doing family stuff and missed the live version. The man has no answers. I am very interested in possible changes between today and the start of next season.

Of course, City being City, they will win 3-0 in the next leg vs. Hamburg, and we’ll be making plans for Istanbul.

Don’t push your luck my friend, 2 goals will see us through provided Hamburg don’t score.

Like you I also gave MH the benefit of the doubt but over the months my confidence in him has gone.

Should we go out on Thursday that’ll be the final nail in his coffin.

Jose Mourinho I expect to be the next manager

Oh fuck off… Peterborough give away a penalty. Saved, ref says the keeper moved, take it again. Saved, linesman flags and says take it again. Scored on the third attempt.

God damn motherfu…

Presumably the keeper moved off his line? Otherwise that’s pretty terrible refereeing! I can certainly understand your frustration, particularly amid the general non-application of the LOAF at a penalty kick (for the most recent example, see the ridiculous encroaching by both sides on Frank Lampard’s effort against Bolton). I think it’s outrageous that refs don’t really clamp down on this. It’s so simple to do, and once players realise it can only harm them to encroach (if the law is correctly and strictly enforced), they’ll stop doing it.

Yeah, I wouldn’t mind (as much) if the rules were enforced everywhere. But no, they decided to enforce the letter of the law for one game, possibly the most important game of the season for Posh. Well, I guess every game is the most important from now on. TBH we played shit, but still…

Three games to go… Stockport (13th) at home, Colchester (14th) away and Swindon (17th) at home. The first two have nothing to play for, Swindon will hopefully be safe by the final game. If we win them all; we claim automatic promotion. If not we’ll be in the play-offs potentially against Leeds, MK Dons and Millwall… We’d better win, screw Wembley.

… Wow … What a game! It must be completely gutting to be a Liverpool fan right now.

I broke my abacus trying to keep up.

Yes, thanks, as a matter of fact, it is.

Christ.

At least Liverpool made a real run at it, unlike Bayern who couldn’t muster up much of anything even at home.

Now that is what you call a game of football.

I honestly thought Liverpool were going to do it after they went 2 goals up.

A colleague of mine who is a Liverpool fan came in this morning and just said it was a great game, a remarkably fair view from a partisan! Good game it was, particularly as all the first-half goals came during the adverts in Gok Wan’s Fashion Fix that the missus wanted to watch!

I think if Liverpool had tightened up after going 2-0 up and looked to score on the counter, that would have worked better for them - it was rather as if they couldn’t believe they had got two thirds of their target in the first third of the match and thought they had to continue going all-out.

By the way, I heard both teams had a post-match warm-down on the pitch afterwards. Rafa and Gus told them to jog towards the near post. Apparently Cech and Reina are still out there looking for it.

That was a really, really fun match. I was torn because I just couldn’t pull for Liverpool, but knew that it’s to United’s benefit for them to keep playing in the CL in terms of winning the league. I was laughing when the ESPN2 announcers were calling the match over after Lampard’s first goal to make it 3-2, and then they did it again (!) once he made it 4-4. Liverpool had just shown that they could get 2 goals in a minute, and there were still a few to go. As sloppy as Chelsea were playing those last 10 mins, why would it be so hard to think Liverpool couldn’t get them. Hell, if not for Essien’s head (incredible save!), it just may have happened.

On to United…
I’m disappointed that Darren Fletcher isn’t playing today. Apparently he didn’t even make the trip. His energy and big game experience would have been huge. Oh well. I think with Rio and Vidic together again, they’ll be alright at the back, and Rooney’s been great lately for club and country, and I’m looking for him to drive United to the semis.

Well, well, well. What do you know. Three out of the four semi-finalists are English teams, and the only reason that one of the four are gone is that two played each other. Really, really awful football these English play, almost comical in its lack of ability.
Btw, that was one of the more amazing goals Ronaldo blasted in today. Notice how the ball had almost no rotation as it screamed past the keeper. :eek"

I just hope that with Rio and Vidic back in central defence the leaking can be halted.

I know some people don’t like the idea of three English teams in the semi-finals but honestly, Barca/Chelsea and ManU/Arsenal promise to be fantastic games. Arsenal have a good chance to ‘ruin’ the ManU run-in on two fronts.

I need to get Sky Sports before I throw my radio against the wall. Alan Green drives me crazy.
