UK football, season 2008/09, forecasts

I was wondering what Xabi did to piss off so many other players…

Got the result in the end but, yeah, what you said.

What a bunch of spawny wazzacks you lot are:dubious:

I don’t beleeeeive it ::Victor Meldrew voice::

Losing and yet again you stuff it 3-2, that bugger Kuyt is really getting on my tit

What with the noises in the paper about Juve, I’m starting to get seriously worried that we’ve pissed Xabi off enough that he’ll leave anyway. I really don’t understand what all that bollocks about Gareth Barry was supposed to achieve, and I think it’s unsettled a very good player who was happy to be at Liverpool. Still, at least he’s playing well in the meantime.

Don’t worry, chowder, we’ll let you have the Kuytinator for £20m in January. I think you can just about afford a player of his quality now, right?

Shhhh, don’t stay that; it looks like we can’t win without the other side being reduced to ten men!

Yes we could afford him, heck we could afford the whole Liverpool squad including all the WAGS

Pulled a result out against Everton so can’t complain. Plus watched the comedy gold that is Spurs losing yet again and spent the evening texting “ADRIFT!” to every Spurs fan I know.

Also, got this from a West Ham fan at work this morning, which amused me:

That’s not bad at all garius not bad at all.

Who would have thunk it?

Hull, first season ever in the top flight and now lying 3rd having disposed of those you mention and a few others.

There’s only Chelski left for them now, then we can all have a jolly good chortle

Well, hell. Now I have to say something nice about Everton.

Nope, still can’t do it.

…and Newcastle continue to give Spurs a run in the “brightening up everyone else’s season” stakes…

Jonathan Woodgate’s comment “We’re worse than Leeds!”, caused me no end of mirth, while we are mocking the afflicted!

Of course, I now support Stenhousemuir.

No, actually, I’m changing sports. I’m now a fan of womens beach volleyball.

Hull are certainly entertaining to watch, and are producing some remarkable results. Next week might not be so good for them, with games against the Blue and Red powerhouses, but still, promotion to top of the table is quite acceptable.

Was nice to see their game against the Baggies today here in America on FSC. Now Blackburn and Boro struggle through the rain. Gotta be a miserable day for football in Lancashire.

It’s done nothing but rain all day in this part of the world. Having forgotten about Man U’s early kick off, and missing the commentary, I noticed Roo failed to notch up his 100. Still, at least he didn’t get sent off, although I also noticed he did get subbed. I’ll have to watch MOTD and see if he was getting frustrated.

Who would have thunk it?

Hull up there on the same, 20pts, as the mighty Liverpool and that lot from up the road from Fulham.

I had £10 on Hull to be relegated, the bastards

Hull are rapidly becoming my new favorite 2nd team. I think it’s just awesome how they’ve barrelled up the table.

Hull remind me so much of Reading, who were also in their first ever top tier season. I fear that the second season might not be as easy, if Reading’s experience is anything to go by. It does seem like the established Premiership teams take a while to get the measure of some of the newly promoted teams. But when they do…

Maybe. But there are also tales of consdiderable success upon promotion. Look at how long Charlton were able to stay up the last time. Hull remind me of them much more, having a very good squad of players who are clearly not prima donna material, but, rather, working players unselfish in nature and focused on the important goal. Kinda like Foxes were under O’Neill, and they also did quite well upon promotion last time around, until the financial woes nailed them.
Have to say that I thought 'Boro were a bit unlucky today. They seemed the better team in a game made difficult by the rain. Stolen point for Blackburn; they had best take that and put it in the bank right away before someone comes looking for it.

Well, Tottenham have gone and sacked Ramos (and Comolli, and Poyet) and hired everyone’s favourite cheeky mercenary, 'Arry Redknapp. Wonder what odds you could get on him being back at Portsmouth next season, having successfully steered Spurs to the drop?

Wow. So the day before each club has a match, they both have to have a change in managers. The comments from Pompey indicate it wasn’t just done overnight; will be interesting to see how each of the teams reacts to this sudden change.

Not sure how Redknapp can come out of this one looking good. If Spurs drop, he’s failed; if Spurs stay up, everyone will say that was what was expected. Unlike his ability to keep Portsmouth from being relegated, a good result with Tottenham probably won’t be attributed to his abilities.

I’m pleased with Redknapp. I think we needed to lose the director of football nonsense and get back to a normal structure that doesn’t undermine the manager. Hopefully he’ll now get them playing in a formation they can understand and look at bringing in a defensive midfielder.

Feel a bit sorry for Ramos (though not as much as I did for Jol) but, unfortunately, we couldn’t afford him the time I think it would have taken him to get to grips with the premiership.

Not sure about these reports of Redknapp picking the team for today’s game, as he won’t have had time to see the players, but at least the atmosphere should be a bit more optimistic this afternoon.

Recently I’ve only been going to each game to see my mates, get drunk, and boo Darren Bent, but I might actually pay attention to the match again now!
