UK Football Season 2009/2010

Be careful when hanging your sons shirt out to dry after washing, some bugger may steal the clothes pegs:D

Yes. I did know that David Moyes is not the manager of Birmingham!

Ignorance fought once again, thank you. In that case, you could perhaps argue that Rooney was distracting his opponent, but perhaps not on a strict interpretation of the Laws you quoted.

Let’s be honest, Rooney is so fugly that he is a distraction to all opponents whereever he is on the pitch.

Makes you wonder what Colleen sees in him…oh wait he’s quite well heeled innit.

Anyway villa You only manged to beat Blackburn 1-0?

Heavens man we crushed 'em 4-1, do try harder

“W” is “W” regardless. The rest is just show-boating.

City 2 down to Everton. Chowder will not be pleased, particularly as United won today.

What was that you were saying?

Wow, City came out strong, looked good for all of 10 min., then totally lost the plot. Everton gave them a good-ol’ butt-whuppin’. The ONLY life they showed in the game after Min. 10 was when SWP came on for the ineffective (but at least more likely to touch the ball than the totally outclassed Tevez) Robinho. After having started on the bench, subbing in only because Roque Santa Cruz couldn’t go 7 min. without his injury acting up, then getting yanked with a half-hour to go, I think we can safely assume Robinho is on his way out the door, and by his own choice at this point.

One of these days, City will have to wake up and understand that money and talent don’t do squat in the Premiership; you have to actually WANT to win, and act accordingly.

In other news, Liverpool once again prove how much trouble they are in, first scoring totally out of the blue, then letting in the inevitable goal when they play turtle after their own goal. I personally don’t think you can blame Rafael Benitez for their situation, but I’m guessing that the owners will soon want to make some change, just to make it look like they care about doing something other than bleeding the club dry of all its cash.

And Spotlands was too cold/icy to hold a game, so the efforts of Rochdale are on hold again.

Just lulling the opposition into a false sense of security. The defeat by the toffees was tactical genius on Mancini’s part

DSY Esq 2-0 is hardly a butt whuppin’ as you so eloquently phrase it.

It was actually a waterlogged pitch that forced the Rochdale game to be post-poned. However, Bournemouth lost at home so the mighty Dale still occupy top spot and have a game in hand

Water is just liquid ice.

And 2 - 0 is a butt-whuppin’ when you have almost no decent shots on the goal and the opposition has two or three woodwork jobs. City needed the shot across the bow to remind them hard work is needed.

Good to hear that Bournemouth lost; having the lead with a game in hand is always an enviable position to be in. I notice that the Toon are at the top of the Championship with TWO games in hand. Guessing we’ll be seeing Premiership footie at St. James Park again next year.
Chowder, what’s the thought where you are among the supporters about Robinho?

I’m of the opinion that he just doesn’t give a stuff about playing for City and until such time as he does I’m firmly in the “Get rid of him for as much as we can get” crowd.

There’s little doubt that he is a very talented player but at the moment his confidence appears to have flown out the window.

If it flies back in, keep him, if it doesn’t, get rid.

Word on the street is that City will table bids for both Gerrard and Torres.

A rumour?

Torres might be interested, but I’d be pretty shocked if Gerrard was.

After their humiliation at Goodison, Mancini has promised at least one new face at City in January.

Tevez and Lescott are fighting over it.
:D:D

Anyhoo, there is loads of speculation over Gerard at the mo on the various forums. It’s been precipitated by his non-appearance for the second half against Reading, a very non-Stevie G occurrence, plus general awful body language / dire performances in the bag of shite that is the current Liverpool side. Usual rumours over dressing-room bust-ups.

The root of it, according to the rumour mill, is the fact that both Gerrard and Torres have the world cup ahead of them where they could both do well (likely be Gerrard’s last, and did he not miss a previous world cup through injury?). They’re both carrying niggling injuries that aren’t clearing up, and they’re being asked to play by Benitez when they’re not really fit.

You hear this sort of bollocks all the time when Liverpool hit a slump. Definitely something to it for Stevie G(bh), though. He’s potentially coming to the end of his prime years as a midfield general, it remains to be seen if he is one of those players who can maintain excellence into their 30s. Liverpool look like they’re on the edge of an abyss - he’s got to be thinking about a move. And if he’s not, his employers are.

What’s more Robinho is on £160,000 per week…One hundred and sixty thousand pounds per week !!!

For doing what?

Fuck all, that’s what

No, what he is doing is even worse. He is encouraging other squad members to demand £160,000 per week, when their efforts are consistently better than his.

So we go top if we beat Bolton by two goals mid-week, and Liverpool are out of the European places. There weren’t many predicting it’d be that way round at the beginning of the season.

Another weekend where the chasing crowd utterly failed to capitalize on the current comedy happening at Liverpool though. I must admit, I can’t shake the suspicion that City and Villa will tail off, and that Tottenham are going to find themselves one Lasagna away from a Champions League finish yet again.

I do have to say that I loved Mancini’s disdainful, almost negligible effort behind the back trap of the long ball out of bounds that was perfectly controlled. It was one of the best pieces of football by City on Saturday. Almost a pointed commentary on his part about what his players need to be doing (and was Robinho listening? no, he was in the showers by then).

Much as I hate to think that spending a pile of money should be rewarded with another mid-table team being taken to the top (Chelsea drive me up a wall!), I’m almost so desperate for SOMEONE to break up the cozy little top-4 grouping that if Man. City can keep it going, and finish in the top 4, I’ll be happy. At least, if nothing else, they’ve managed to bring a bit of sartorial know-how to the pitch, as Mancini has more of that in 1 finger than most Prem managers have in their entire wardrobe.

I do remain concerned about the state of English footie, though. The top flight is WAY too dependent upon foreign money at the present. If that were to suddenly dry up, the whole thing would come crashing down in a very big way. The ongoing saga at Pompey is a cautionary tale for everyone.

Yes indeed - when even Man Utd, the football club that generates the most revenue in the world (or possibly second or third) struggles to service its debt, you know football has problems.

Though this is entiely down to the Glazer’s financing of their takeover. It is almost as if I walked into a bank and got them to give me a 700 million loan to buy Man Utd. How much of their own cash went into the deal anyway?

I hope chowder has not passed on due to euphoria. what a lovely result today, hopefully the same on the other side in 8 days.
