UK Football Season 2009/2010

Oh well, at least Wigan gave it a good go - oh, wait, they didn’t. I hope they are as embarrassed as I am disappointed.

Still, even as a lifelong United fan, I’ve got to finally admit that we just weren’t good enough when it mattered this season. It hurts to say that, and it hurts even more to know that we SO NEARLY were good enough to win the league AND the European Cup - just two extra goals could have done it. Well done Chelsea - you smug bunch of Russian Smurfs.

Yeah, I don’t like saying it but Chelsea have been the best team over the season. Not by much, but enough to dispel any thoughts that they don’t deserve it.

Now, about Rochdale, who got promoted for the first time in not one but two generations. Where is chowder? I’m genuinely slightly worried about him.

This just about perfectly sums up my thoughts. Even with the loss of Ronaldo and Tevez, I truly thought that United could and would win the title this year. I expected players to step up, and most did (Rooney; Valencia, who never looked like he wasn’t sure of himself after August; Scholes; Giggs), though I would have liked more from Carrick and Berbatov. I’m not anti-Berbatov at all, by the way, but I really don’t know what can be done to help/make him be successful. He’s the epitome of an enigmatic player. I also thought Chelsea would succumb to their players getting on in years. Instead, Drogba and Lampard had seasons as good as they’ve had with Chelsea. I’m a huge fan of Essien, but with seemingly 2 years since he’s been at his best, I wonder who he’ll come back from injuries. Oh well, fair play to Chelsea, and I expect United to come back stronger next year. Hopefully it’s enough to get #19.

Yep. Chelsea have just delayed the inevitable. The London Blues did a great job in holding us off, but we’ll bounce back with a vengeance from this disappointing season.

For me, Berbatov’s talents are beyond doubt - it was his attitude that held him back, but he looked to be overcoming that at times, this season. Carrick was a real let down. For such a big guy, he got out-muscled far too often this campaign. I’m glad to see Nani starting to shine like the diamond they see on the training ground, and I was happy to see JS Park get a new contract.
