UK police shoot innocent man: an update

As you may recall, a month ago in London police hunted down a Brazilian man and shot him in the head.

It now turns out that police were lying about the man wearing a bulky jacket, lying about his jumping a turnstile to get on the tube, and lying about telling him to stop.

Police never even identified Jean Charles de Menenez because they were too busy taking a piss.

Wow, that is bizzare. Actually, it is way too bizzare and I don’t believe it at all. I’m off to the store now to buy shiny stuff to protect my head.

I could not have been the only one who saw a Londoner describe the scene as he witnessed it:
“The police chased the man onto the train. The man stumbled at the door and the police tackled him. Once on the floor the police shot him multiple times in the head.”

On the news last night, it was reported that the man was sitting in a seat before he was shot by the police.

Now how could the witness have recounted such a dramatically different set of events?

There is a lengthy Pit thread about this shooting, and I thought it might be helpful to post 2 new and relevant links here as well.

Fatal mistakes that cost de Menezes his life (note: the mistakes were not de Menezes’)

Met ‘resisted Tube death probe’

These stories show clearly that the police executed a man who was being restrained, and then attempted to cover the story up.

Shameful. Disgusting. Plus a whole bunch of other words that are more appropriate for another forum, and a few that would be deemed inappropriate for any forum on the SDMB.

 :frowning:

SOP for police, or any UK agency on surveillance is for two to be on watch at the same time.

I simply do not believe that at the height of a terrorist alert, with surveillance on a possible suspect, and with all the resources committed to that operation, there was not two of them there.

Two very bored people, not doing their job, playing cards, xbox games, whatever.

As far as I know, video cameras don’t actually need to take a piss, so how was it that it took a break at exaclty the same time as the surveillance officer ?

Strange how every tube station is under cctv surveillance 24/7, and such tapes were used to identity other bombers, and yet, somehow, the cameras in an area where the police made such a screw up, were not working ?

Its not the first time cctv tapes have gone walabout or cameras mystriously stopped working in the vicinity of police operations, nor for such tapes when they have been made, to somehow go missing.

Strange, isn’t it ?

Met police have a habit of shooting unarmed people, even when they live at the wrong address, and are naked in bed.

Odd how comms tapes are not available during such operations to record the radio traffic for later analysis eh ? After the JFK assasination, police comms tapes were available, and yet over 40 years later, our police in the UK can’t manage this miraculous feat of ensuring that public scrutiny of police actions can be made by having their radio traffic recorded ?

Actually, I came here to post a question about this, and ask if it had made the news in the US, because I’ve been in British Columbia all week, and it’s been all over both the television and print news. I expected a post about this before now. Note, I’m not pitting anyone for not mentioning it earlier, I just wondered if it had slid under the radar.

My bad, I just noticed that there had been notice taken of it in several threads that existed before the video evidence proving the victim of the police shooting had acted normally before they shot him.
