I’m interesed in investing a few bob in the stock marke. I have no prior experience of trading and would like your recommendations of a clear, easy to use and cheap (or free, if they exist) site where I can buy and sell shares (or at least instruct a broker to do so for me). Where do I start?

If you’re trading small amounts, the Halifax sharebuilder might be useful. Its certainly easy and cheap (£1.50 a trade).

I would highly recommend reading a few books on the subject before jumping in; and then, if you intend to daytrade as it seems to me you might be, play with a practice portfolio for a while. Expect to lose money.
