UK Snap Election: 8 June 2017

Which is why the Tories will probably win, I wish I could trust younger voters to turn out, but that’s a fool’s errand. The older Tory voters WILL turn out and vote and the younger Corbyn voters will probably insta tweet and face snap how much they love Labour and Corbyn, but not actually cast a ballot.

Just checked, my figure was the average, not the starting. Mea Culpa, and so forth, thanks for correcting it.

Because it was mentioned that nurses pay is so low that they are having to rely on food banks, something I find dubious to put it mildly.

Hmm. I’ve started to keep an eye on the betting markets - hoping it might be 70%+ turnout as per Blair in 1997.

The markets say no go; the range 60-65% has hardened a little in the past 2-3 days. No idea why the markets feel that way but it’s obv. disappointing for Labour.

This isn’t intended as a criticism but an observation; if you really felt it sounded correct that nurses starting salary was £24,000 you might consider you could be a little out of touch.

It doesn’t sound far off what I would expect it to be, given it’s now a graduate job.

This site says starting pay is £21,600, which is slightly lower that I thought. I’m not sure how the figures given there square with an average of £24,000 to be honest. Maybe older nurses without degrees get lower pay, or something.

I think there’s a couple of polls still to come:

•Survation: Con +1
•YouGov: Con +4
•Opinium: Con +6
•ORB: Con +9
•ICM: Con +11
•ComRes: Con +12

Thursday night is going to be an exciting night!

7 polls in all tonight, range 1% to 12%. Bonkers.
nb. live incident on London Bridge, van driving into pedestrians. I’m sure there will be a thread soon.

I’ve started one in MPSIMS

That’s a basic Band 5 Staff Nurse position, ie entry level.

Here’s the full list of bands and spine points with some examples of the types of job at each level.

And I’ll be working in the futures markets as the exit poll is announced. Let’s hope for something less ‘exciting’ than Brexit night and Trump night.

No poster who has been the subject of any Mod actions in this thread has also Reported a post.

Stop trying to pass blame around and just continue the discussion without resorting to personal attacks. (You can drop the paranoid fantasies, as well.)

I will actually miss the announcement of the exit poll. I won’t get home until about half ten that night.

Campaigning suspended once again after the London Bridge attack. Although May’s criticising the internet for being too…what? Free? That allows terrorists to do bad things.

It’s noticeable that all sides on social media are still indulging in their fair share of political digs and point scoring over this attack. It would be interesting to know what proportion are centrally co-ordinated and what proportion are being posted by overly passionate amateurs.

I think that with the Brexit vote last year still fresh in people’s minds the youth turnout will be much higher. Especially if it’s a nice day.

The London forecast is showing a high of 19 C and a 50% chance of rain, so not an awful forecast. IIRC, Brexit Day had awful rain and floods.

I wonder… do we have any available statistics for applications for postal votes?

Definitely. I was in a taxi that evening taking my wife home after she received the news that her mother had died. It was absolutely throwing it down.
