UK Snap Election: 8 June 2017

Watching in the USA on BBC Wold News America and also Sky News on my Roku.

Seems on the BBC some think the swing in favor of the Tories in two of the first three constituencies indicates they think the exit poll might be wrong and the Tories may in fact win a decent majority.

We shall see. While I do follow UK politics, I’m not nearly as well versed in UK electoral trends as I am for elections here in the US…so any analysis from the board would be welcome…

I’m being all grown up and going to bed, so I can get the result as short sharp slap in the face rather than a drip feed. Enjoy, all.

And belated congratulations to Chi Onwurah, the just-elected MP for Newcastle upon Tyne Central.

I think Heath was the last leader to survive an election defeat or reversal.

Despite what Labour would have you believe, the Tories aren’t hung up about such things. My local Tory councillor, Ross Thomson, is gay, and his husband is apparently a nice chap. Ross is also the local Tory candidate for Westminster.

The drinks might well be on me, folks!

… they have also elected the only women and Jew. I think Heath also was believed to have been homosexual l.

Hesitate to say it - so, so early still - but the exit poll might not be far off …

Asexual IIRC. There have been accusations about boys but nothing that’s held water.

BTW the BBC seem to think that Ross Thompson will win.

And they legalised gay marriage, making us one of the first few countries to do so. There’s at least as much homophobia into the party of the working man as with the Tories.

Hastings and Rye too close to call, may require a recount. Amber Rudd going down?

Doing checks on the YouGov model, it looks like they have got it closer than anyone else so far (except Survation)

Indeed. A huge moment for YouGov. They went totally out on a limb calling it hung several days ago.

Tonight’s exit poll mirrors YouGov pretty well, and the actual results tonight aren’t far off that. So far.

Liam Fox is being quizzed on whether May will stay on if it’s a hung parliament. He went over what felt like the entire history of the U.K., but did not answer the question.

Is there a chance Jeremy Corbyn is becoming Prime Minister, or does this just mean Theresa May will step down and let someone else from her party become PM?

Nate Silver is having a fit on Twitter trying to make sense of the shifts. North is going more Tory, South is breaking Labour.

It looks like the collapsed UKIP vote is getting reassigned way more 50:50 between Labour and Conservatives than expected. Which is weird, tbh.

It’s too soon imo; first thing she has to do is avoid the whiskey and revolver option tonight.

Rumours abound that Nick Clegg’s coat is on a shoogly peg
