In case you’re not joking, radiation doesn’t work like in bad sci-fi movies… The gamma-radiation burst would increase lethality, sterilize them if they did survive, and likely give advanced forms of cancer, not give them all super-powers

Some will turn into Abominations and still others will grow big brains. Don’t even get me started on cosmic rays.
How about something that causes the universe in contact with the targetted spot to fall to a lower vacuum state? Such a rift would enlarge unstoppably in all directions at the speed of light, with the devastation absolute.

Maybe this phenomenon could be propagated through wormholes and their ilk to destroy the whole universe in a few minutes. That would be pretty ultimate.
