Anybody been watching this on the Sci-Fi channel? Is it me or are all British produced programs a little dry and uneventful? This “mini series” is neither frightening, shocking or even all that interesting. I’ll hang in there a few episodes more just in case it gets a little better. The second episode last night was the best so far.

I’ve watched both nights of this so far and I must say I’ve been thoroughly enjoying it. Yes, it’s a little bit dry and uneventful, but that’s because it’s not trying to be all about “let’s kick the undead asses of some vampires.” (Though that is happening often enough.) It’s meant to be a bit more cerebral than that. The strength of this show is that while you’re following the action from one point of view, you’re constantly seeing arguments from both sides.
Yes, the vampires are manipulating and killing people. But hey, maybe they can eliminate many of the blood diseases and disorders that plague mankind. Yes, those committed to fighting them are protecting mankind from this hidden threat. But they are very fierce - almost totalitarian - in their ways. It’s watching Michael (and all the others who get caught in the middle) try to make sense of the battle (whether they know there’s a battle or not) that moves the story.
And I find it very amusing that they’ve already aired four hours of this show and they’ve yet to use the terms “vampire,” “vampirism,” “nosferatu,” and a few other similar terms. (Or did I just miss them?)
Well Torberg after last nights second episode I guess there isn’t much doubt as to who the good guys and who the bad guys are anymore. It was beginning to look as though the “humans” were a bunch of over zealous fanatics. Last couple of episodes definately picked up the pace a little.
I am a little disappointed that the sniveling little love interest didn’t bite the big one last night. She really makes me gag, and makes our stalwart hero look like a mooning love sick ass. Oh well, I guess there has to be some kind of sexual tension.
Perhaps that’s what I do miss the most about this series as opposed to a more “classic” vampire story. It isn’t action. It’s the sexual tension that is often present and usually such a large part of the appeal. Oh well…
