Umberrrr, You're in trrroubbllllle...

OK, growing up would say something like the above sentence.
My 20-ish year old daughter said it to her friends today, and they asked what the hell she was saying.

I feel somewhat like an idiot asking this, but did any of you ever say something like “Umberrr, you’re in troubllllee!?”

Yeah, Ummmmmmburrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr was big for a couple years where I was growing up. maybe 82-86 or so. To be honest I’m not sure if we had just decided we were too mature, but was still used by younger kids, or if it died out altogether.

I really havn’t thought about in decades.

Is “Umberrr” supposed to be a name? Other than that part, we would say stuff like that.

“Oooooooooh, you’re in troubllllllllle”

or

“Troubllllle, big tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime”

And possibly some other variations as well.

This was in elementary school. I wasn’t THAT much of a loser during high school.

Hmm Well I graduated high school in 1980, so I suppose it was a generational thing.

No, it’s not a name. It’s a replacement for the word “Oooooooooh.”

Yeah, we said that when we were in Kindergarten.

Umber?

I seem to remember in the early seasons of “Facts Of Life” Tootie (Kim Fields) has a catchphrase that was similar.
“Ooooh, someones’ in Truhhh-bulll”…

I think it was written to become like Arnold’s (Diff’rent Strokes) “Wat-choo talkin’ bout, Willis” line, and similarly take the nation by storm, but poor Tootie/Kim never got the acclaim that was showered upon the sublime work of Sir Gary Coleman.

Seems to me we used to say “*um um ummmmmm *. . .” and the "you’re in trouble part was usually just implied, though sometimes said.
