"Umm 'scuze me, but we's used to eatin' stake and lobstar. Kin we have that, pwease?"

THEY CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER?

Yeah, I mean, they are just kids. All things considered, they acted intelligently and maturely. (There’s always going to be a few “My cat’s breath smells like cat food” types in bunch to mix things up.)

I think the thread title would be a lot cuter if it was glued to a picture of some hapless looking cats. Wanting to know if they can has cheeseburger.

ETA: DAMNIT! I thought I was original!

Sigh. Goddamn, your threads are a chore, VCO3. You suck.

Just like a…troll.

No kidding, and although they were presented with that “veritable” salad bar, the article goes on to say:

and

So, the kids thought the frozen green beans were crap, they got to taste some other vegetables (that were presented in an attractive manner), got to do some wishful thinking, and then made a choice between canned green beans, corn, carrots, or peas.
Yeah, the horror.
I begin to think you’ve come to enjoy your label of “Freakishly Over-Reactive Poster” a little too much. There’s no way you could have read that article from beginning to end and come to the conclusions you posted, so that leaves you just making shit up out of thin air and wishing disease on a bunch of second graders to provoke people…
Hmmm.

Wow, VCO3, this doesn’t speak very highly of your reading comprehension skills. But it was amusing to watch the spittle flying. Keep up the good work!

Having actually done my practicum in Clark County, the OP is exceptionally irritating to me.

You seem to have a serious, serious reading comprehension problem. Not only did they very politely take part in “democracy in action” to find a more palatable alternative to the green beans, they didn’t normally have a salad bar. Based off of your rather offensive comments about the “little darlings of Las Vegas plutocrats and Casino barons” I’ll assume half your rage is directed at the perceived wealth of these kids.

First of all: this is a public school. We’re not talking about incredibly wealthy families here. The kids are, at best, upper middle-class. Las Vegas is not a land of endless wealth and decadence. The “Las Vegas plutocrats and Casino barons” send their children to private schools and you know what? Even those “little darlings” of such individuals would still be entirely justified in making requests of what their school feeds them.

The fact that you didn’t have a similar program where one of your teachers gave your class a project to change something about your school in no way requires others to suffer. The teacher and the students did a cool thing. I’ve seen similar projects in Clark County where the kids focused on playground equipment, new books for the library, getting an old building painted and other things like this. It’s a way to get the kids involved in what’s going on around them. They have a voice and they accomplish things and it is a wonderful learning experience for them. This is not something I would ever want to see stopped.

And what good is it serving them “stake and lobstar” if the cafeteria ladies are going to spit on their plates anyways?

I wanted to include this sentiment in my post, but given VCO3s failure to even read the article, I figured why bother. Thanks for pointing it out.

VC03, you might want to bookmark this page. I suspect the information it contains will be of vital import to you before too long.

With “Get AIDS” thrown in to ensure response.

OK, that’s my first out-loud laugh of the day. Cheers, Giraffe!

I don’t see where the outrage is.

Many colleges institutionalize this kind of thing- they have boards made of students, who act as liaisons between the food service staff and the students who eat in the dining facilities.

Many’s the time I got dumb-ass suggestions as an advisory board member for “How about better steaks- maybe filets?” or things that the food service board didn’t like (take-home food; they’d lose money).

But the majority of the time, they were constructive (“Give us brown gravy more often”. “Take the onions out of the cole slaw”, “The sweet and sour sauce tastes like dumpster slime”.) and the requests were acted on, although having to sample sweet & sour sauce at 6:30 am is another story…

Were the students at my university “spoiled little fucking ABORTIONS”? Hardly- I went to one of the big state universities here in Texas. Just about everyone was middle class.

I see no problem with letting elementary school kids do the same thing, within reason.

Won’t SOMEONE think of the baby corn?

It’s not like the entire population of Las Vegas is made up of plutocrats and casino barons. The people who work in the casinos and restaurants, doing not-so-well-paid jobs like cleaning and waiting tables, have to live within a reasonable distance of the casinos too. I’d be shocked if people who clean the toilets at a casino, for example, make much more money than people who do the same job elsewhere.

Whatever schools the “Las Vegas plutocrats and Casino barons” send their kids to are probably not as financially constrained on vegetable choices as the school in the article.

Second graders don’t understand what things cost. Film at 11. In other news, sun rises in east, Pope still Catholic, VCO3 expresses outrage at “rich” people :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s better than green beans.

The minimum wage in Nevada is $5.30 for employers who provide insurance and $6.33 for those who don’t IIRC, so I’d say that the people cleaning the toilets aren’t any richer than the people anywhere else. Those who earn their money from tips generally do pretty well, but I don’t think it’s dramatically better than elsewhere. And there are lots and lots and lots of people who have nothing to do with the tourist industry at all.

Honestly, if there was any chance of getting served steak and lobster at the public schools in Las Vegas, I don’t think they’d have such a shortage of teachers.

This OP may be the dumbest fucking thing I’ve ever read.

I think he did say in a previous Pit thread of his that he doesn’t come back to his Pit threads.

Dude, have you ever actually tasted cafeteria food?

It’s absolute crap. It’s also the most unhealthy shit I’ve ever seen.
