Umphrey's McGee ...... Whoa!

A co-worker of mine gave me a CD today from a band called Umphrey’s McGee.

“Check this out. You’re going to love it! These guys are the new Jam Band Kings.”

Local Band Does OKlahoma (2003)

Whoa! I’m completely blown away. These guys are amazing!

Every day more and more people are tuning in and turning on to Umphrey’s McGee. And for good reason. Like true sons of the American Midwest, Umphrey’s McGee has risen to the upper echelons of the improvisational-rock scene through their seamless compositing of diverse musical influences, from progressive-rock to metal to funk to folk to jazz-fusion to classic song-based rock-and roll, all woven together with infectious melodies, thought-provoking lyrics, pristine harmonies, blistering musicianship, and rollicking grooves that keep dem bones a-shaking throughout the course of their patented sonic sagas.

In researching the band, I’ve come to find that these guys have been around for a while and have a huge following. Apprently, these guys are the new Phish, but better. :eek: I’m embarrassed to say that they have slipped under my radar.

Anyway, any “Umphreaks” out there? If I was to buy one album, which one should I get?

Also, I see that they have an ‘Open’ taping policy. Where can I get some good, free concerts boots?

I have Anchor Drops. Jam bands aren’t my thing – so U’sM are a little granola for my taste but they are really talented. I’ll listen to this CD occasionally and I don’t like Phish at all. They still have a jam band element to them, but they’re more interesting than Phish IMO.
