un-PC beliefs

“Handicapped” is seen as non-pc (in the UK at least). Please use “disabled”.
:stuck_out_tongue:

I think it’s funny the way some people in the US describe black people as “African American” in an attempt to be PC. Even if they are not American (maybe even not of African origin?).

I’ve seen Nelson Mandela decribed as African American!! :smack:

Granted, experiences are from what I’ve seen in my town:

  1. Home schooling is Bunk. Its used by religious nuts to circumvent the requirement of education and the accumulation of knowledge which might disprove their religious beliefs. Its also used as an excuse farm their kids out for cheap labor for extra household income during a time of day when they would normally be learning.

  2. Degrees in Religion are Bunk and should not be considered as valid degrees when hiring for any position other than clergy. All such degrees should be excluded from consideration in either the hiring or the maintaining of any government job, state or federal.

Also, Dude, “Chinaman” is not the preferred nomenclature. “Asian-American,” please.

I am a Christian, but I think churches should be taxed just like any corporation. If they actually do something charitable, then let them take that off their taxes. I see churches as little more than glorified moose lodges.

I think that the vast majority of Americans are just really damned lazy and some days, I am just as bad.

I think that there should be exactly one appeal-able issue in the courts and that is actual innocence.

Or even more progressively, use “other-abled.” Good grief, can’t we just say, My friend, Ted who uses a wheel chair?"

I prefer “Crippy-boy”.

I have an online acquaintance working her way to a PhD in Religious Studies. Trust me, she’s gotten all the skills anyone working towards a doctorate has, and she even teaches a few Christianity classes where she constantly headdesks at students who are still going off the Bible as absolute truth. She took it for the research side and out of interest, not because she’s religious.

You’re not un-PC, you’re just a garden-variety libertarian. Only your discomfort with the cozy relationship between government and CEOs is the least bit outside the standard libertarian line: they would generally support CEOs being able to buy government officials … hell, governments … outright.

I don’t really like many christians. I don’t like when they knock on the door to sell me their religion. I don’t like the ones who have issues with birth control and modern medicine. I’m disgusted that they want to reclaim Halloween. Fuck off and leave my secular holidays alone.

I want them to go away, and go live in a cave if they dislike the modern world that much. Seriously, go away. Fuck off, and shut the fuck up, and leave those of us who like the secular life alone.

Fuck off and do without electricity, antibiiotics, tupperware and city water supplies and leave the rest of us alone. And don’t let the door hit you on the way out!!

Another non-PC belief: people are more likely to vote for someone that is the same race, gender or ethnicity as they are, regardless of their platform or competency.

Proof: black residents of Washington, DC voting for Marion Barry after his numerous scandals, and the otherwise heavily Democratic Italian neighborhoods around here that are thick with Palomino^H^H^H^H^Hadino signs, to name a couple.

  1. If I want to have a beer on my 20 minute commute home, I’m not hurting anyone. Fuck off and leave me alone.

2)Law enforcement is involved in way too many things today. Boyfriend/Girlfriend or Husband/Wife getting in a slap happy screaming match is not a police issue. Is anyone here being held against their will? No? Then keep slapping. Have a good night.

  1. Fuck Breast Cancer Awareness month. I feel sorry for anyone who has had that disease, and I’ve known several people who have. My grandfather died of stomach cancer. Where is his month?

4)I understand the risks of second hand smoke. However there is no reason why any building, especially large airports, can’t have set-aside ventilated rooms dedicated to smoking patrons.

  1. To hell with personal property taxes. I know that the government needs money, but if I have to pay a yearly fee to keep it, it really isn’t mine.

It’s not so much the month, but the overexposure. Fuck the huge pink ribbon banners mounted on every light pole on the main street of a nearby foo-foo village, the footraces and marathons everywhere that tie up traffic, and the pinkwashing, like Vavoline Susan G. Komen For The Cure 10W30 motor oil and St. Ides Save Dem Moneymakers Malt Liquor? Where’s the PSAs with heartwarming survivor stories, 10Kd and specially branded spaghetti sauce for ball cancer, huh?

  1. Abortion should remain legal, but having an abortion is almost always morally wrong.

  2. The Death Penalty is morally right in theory, but the danger of applying it to an innocent makes it impractical to use on a broad scale.

  3. We cannot judge people of the past by today’s standards. Refusing to name a school after George Washington because he owned slaves is just silly.

  4. Eating meat is not immoral. We as humans are naturally omnivorous. We should however strive to improve conditions in which food animals are raised.

  5. I’m with Dio, bring back public stocks and flogging. Use them especially on white collar criminals. Might not do any actual good, but I know I’d love to see it.

What happens if a conviction is based on a clear misapplication or violation of the law by the judge, prosecution or police?

Makes for an interesting image: Chef Boyardee’s canned spaghetti and meatballs, with a sticker applied for testicular cancer awareness month.

My un-PC belief is that a lot of the breast cancer awareness stuff in the media is put there for the titillation factor, so to speak.

Okay…so this one is probably going to keep me out of public office forever, but…

I think when a single woman gets pregnant, she should NOT be able to sue the father for child support if he doesn’t want to pay (regardless of relationship). If women want to be 100% responsible for their bodies (and as a feminist, I believe we should be), then why force the men to pay for the children? I call bullshit on any woman who “blames” a man for getting her pregnant. If you want to have some sort of pre-existing legal agreement outside of marriage or civil union, then fine…but get it in writing, because in my world, if you don’t, then you get nothing! Kiddo is 100% your responsibility.
(All of the above taking place outside of illegal or criminal activity, of course.)

Puddleglum,

I disagree that most of the formal education is worthless. All of the technical education I had has proven to be immensely valuable to me.

What I do think is that too many kids go to school on the misguided idea of getting easy degrees. If I have to listen to one more person whine about their inability to find employment using their psychology/liberal arts/poly sci/music degree…arg!!!

Now, now. Just because it’s weird doesn’t mean it won’t work. Judging by appearances alone is bad science.

Wait for the double-blind independently-conducted research studies that take into account the placebo effect to judge whether something actually works.

That goes for Western ‘alternative’ medicine as well. If you demonstrate that something works, it’s theory’s job and the establishment’s job to catch up, no matter how many comfortable status quos may be disturbed.

Here here. Until all sides in that dispute straighten up and behave like responsible adults, maybe we should hand the whole area over to the Chinese.

After banning yet another Indian spammer, I’ll add this, based on an always-touchy topic on forum administrator message boards.

If most of the visitors to a Web site from a certain country are not legitimate – they’re spammers, scammers, and the like – its perfectly fine to block that country from registering on and/or accessing the site.

The argument against country blocks: “Well, most of the Internet users in India/Pakistan/China/The Philippines/Vietnam/Ukraine/Nigeria aren’t spammers.” Maybe, but 95% of the time, the ones that register on my board are. Why should I have to put up with spammer after spammer after spammer from Country X, in the hopes that maybe, someday, a legitimate user from that country may want to register?
