I think it would be awesome for him to come back. I talked to him on aim not long after he got banned and he said he didn’t want to though.
True it is a matter between him and the admins but maybe the thought of being allowed to return hasn’t occurred to him. Not to say that they should email him but uhhh, I dunno, maybe you should email him Joe Cool.
Hell I wouldn’t be surprised if several of the mods and admins miss him too.
I miss him as well, but wanting is as wanting does. If he wants to come back, he knows what to do.

See, the thing is that I had the impression it was my business to post any kind of discussion choose, provided it was within the rules. Unfortunately, I seem to have missed the portion of the user agreement stating that I had to gain permission from the other non-staff posters prior to starting a thread.
I even followed the rule regarding placement of my thread. The pit is the proper place for discussing staff decisions, and that is what I’m doing, except that it’s difficult with all the background noise.
If you don’t think we should discuss this, then by all means - don’t.
But, since you’re being civil, I’ll assume your tone isn’t intentionally condescending or parental, and respond in kind:
I spoke to Brian three days ago, and he said that he has, in fact, made attempts to contact the staff hoping to be reinstated, and was told that it the moderators would discuss it among themselves. He went on to say that it was met with almost unanimous disapproval.
Keep in mind that I have as much first hand knowledge of what went on as you do, of course (none).
I thought that I’d make a suggestion that might help to open a dialog regarding the possibility that he has relaxed in the intervening time, which has been considerable. So, I started this thread in order to venture my opinion in favor of reconsidering the revocation of his posting privileges, and in hopes that there would be enough of a favorable response, from those who have been around long enough to remember him well, that the staff might consider again his potential contribution to the board and weigh it against whatever factors still lie against him.
It at least appears that the staff do, from time to time, take popular opinion into account when making some administrative decisions of this type, and frankly I hope that popular opinion will influence this one, however unlikely that may be.
So, rather than having somebody clucking over how it’s none of my concern, I’d prefer to have some discourse regarding the way Satan (the poster, not the prince of evil***) is viewed and regarded by his fellow posters, and particularly some friendly conversation with the moderators (several of whom I’ve also met in person and are perfectly reasonable and friendly people. I don’t doubt for a minute they had good reasons for banning him in the first place) if they are willing to discuss it at all. And if not, then so what?

But you offer none of this information.
You led us to believe that this was a random thought brought on by meeting Satan, and thinking he was a great guy. You just thought the staff should reconsider the case, that a year and a half was long enough. You didn’t tell us that the staff did review the case and found it wanting. This is a thinly veiled complaint about their denial of Satan’s request.
My $0.02, the staff almost unanimously said ‘no’, I shall say ‘no’ too, he stays banned.
Satan, Satan, Satan… I have a vague memory of a guy whose girlfriend liked to put on a strap-on and ream him in the ass. That’s the guy, right? Oh, please bring him back! I only started my serious lurking after his much-lamented banning and I’ve always felt like I missed something good.
I really miss Satan and Drainbead, who I believe was not banned. He moved to wherever she lived (Ohio, I think) and I’ve been wondering how they’re doing, what they’re up to, etc. I’m a little creeped out that I remember that much from my lurking days two freaking years ago. Good greif, where has the time gone?
I was wondering if anyone could provide links to threads leading up to Satan’s banning. I don’t think I recall ever reading any bannable offenses and found his banning a bit of a mystery. I could probably offer a stronger opinion if I remembered what got him banned in the first place and if I thought that was something a person could reform or change.

I agree. There is quite a difference between starting a thread to reinstate a banned poster who has not appealed his ban versus one started for a banned poster who has appealed and been denied.
If it’s true that the consensus among the mods and admins was against his reinstatement, then IMO it’s unlikely that even a 100% response in favor of reinstating him will be enough to allow him back. He was banned two years ago. If that much time and an appeal for reinstatement nets nothing, it says something about the nature of Satan’s misbehavior and his apology and appeal. Perhaps the latter was not enough to ease the former.
It makes little difference to me on a personal level if Satan is reinstated. I don’t know the guy, and he doesn’t know me. I want to think that whatever problems he had two years ago have long since been resolved. I think if he came back, he’d be the Satan his friends here remember and want back. However, I don’t like the precedent this thread would set for future bannings. I’m not comfortable with the potential for popular opinion to override the staff decisions, especially when reasoning such as “His posts were funny!” is used. When he was banned, the decision was given thought-- it wasn’t made hastily or without thorough consideration. Whether he should be reinstated deserves equal, if not greater, depth of thought

Satan is an upstanding kinda guy. I’m sure the numerous piddly things that added up to his banning will not be repeated, should he be allowed back.
The manner in which who first presented it, in comparison to all the information which you later admitted to when called out. Your half-assed campaign, combined with your lame-ass conduct in this thread have done Satan no favors. Then again he was banned and rejected for a good reason. Sounds like the staff is dead on right as usual.
As far as the “FIB” crack, if your tractors and haywagons would go faster then 35 miles an hour on the damn interstate we wouldn’t be forced to fly around you like that. Sorry about scaring your chickens and such. Oh how 'bout those Packers!!

Even if that was acceptable, let’s see what you’ve done - in your opinion, based on a one-sided report of what went down and your own opinion following a personal communicade, you have decided Satan is “cool” and deserves another chance. So you started a thread to rally support.
What would you recommend that people do who thought that he was an overbearing and threatening asshole who would attack you mercilessly online in multiple venues if he felt his sense of self-importance was in the least bit threatened by you? Who DID, despite all protests, have a sick little clique of “hero worshippers” that followed him around and supported everything he did? Oh yeah, he was “kewl” alright - until he turned his roving eye on you and flamed the fuck out of you because he was a mean, petty person who had serious psychological problems? Should we start a companion thread “Don’t bring back Satan?”
And the open contempt he continually showed for the Staff here has only been equaled once in history, IMO, by a current unbanned Member.

Joe, I’m sorry man, I do like you, but I think this thread was a very bad idea. 
(Drain Bead, on the other hand, was an intelligent and witty poster. The fact that she left in support of Satan was sad, although understandable.)
Don’t quote me as gospel, but if my brain cells haven’t failed and there have been no new developments, the backstory goes like this: Satan moved to Columbus, Ohio to be with Drain Bead, who was then finishing up college in Columbus. She’s now halfway through law school there and has a job with the public defender’s office. He’s a freelance writer on the rock n’ roll beat. They’re still engaged, and I think they’re planning to get married about this time next year.

Why do you think he wasn’t given many chances? IIRC, he was - I remember several moderator warnings given to him in GD. And that’s just what was said publicly. When he was banned, I thought “Too bad, but no big surprise.”
