Uncircumcised males only please.

In a GD thread about circumcision the following claim was made

So I’d like to poll here. Please note: this is not NOT the place to engage in debate about circumcision. If you wish to do that please jump on in the GD thread (although it has, if you’ll excuse the expression, petered out by now).

Uncircumcised males only, yes or no, do you consider circumcision to be a “serious injury”? This is not asking you if you want one, if you’d have one if it was medically indicated, or if you’d circumcise your child. Just whether or not that phrase describes your personal view or if perhaps it isn’t something you really think about either way.

Thank you.

I never thought the “basic American” circumcision was dangerous, so my answer is no, its not a serious injury.

Certainly it can be harmful…but alot of things that arent “serious injuries” are harmful.

A serious injury is something with the possibility of being fatal, so no a circumcision is no where near a serious injury.

The exact question is too ambiguous to be anything but useless (no offense intended, but perhaps clarification is in order.)

I do think though that circumcision is seriously unnecessary.

The OP has requested that this argument not take place here. Please respect that.

“Serious injury”? Um, no.
I wouldn’t consider loss of an earlobe to be a serious injury either.

It wasn’t a “debate”, it was an isolated opinion that I believe clarified the OP’s question. To wit, it wasn’t pur forth in opposition of another stance, and as such, fits the op’s “do not engage in a debate” which I did not.

Nevertheless.

I’m sorry but the way this is phrased isn’t like asking women whether they think giving birth is excruciatingly painful but limiting your respondents to women who have never been pregnant?

Thank you for the responses. Red Barchetta, a particular claim was made about the response of “any uncircumcised male” … nothing ambiguous about it or about the responses made. This is a poll to test a claim. Nothing more.

levdrakon, your response belongs in the other thread and that is where I will address it.

It’s not a serious injury to the body as such. Bar infection, it’s unlikely to be life-threatening.

I would say it was a serious injury to the penis, though.

My fiance is an uncircumsized male, so for this poll I asked him.
“Would you say circumsizion is an serious injury?”
“I can’t say that I do.”
"Would you consider circumcision to yourself, at your age, a the infliction of a serious injury on you?
“Umm… I’d sure miss that piece of skin, yes.”

I do not consider it to be a “serious injury”. Unfairly phrased question though. I do consider it to be a mutilation.

(This said, in the light of the indication from AIDS stats, it may be a necessary evil. Hands off my pecker though.)

Would you still consider it necessary if routine use of condoms provided better results?

For almost all men, circ or non, the one they have is the only one they can remember. I can speculate that having all my original sexually sensitive skin is more rewarding than having a few square inches less, but I don’t know. A guy who was altered probably can’t understand the concept of having a sexual experience better than the best he ever had.

I wouldn’t have one for all the money in the world (nor did I have my son circumcised). An injury? No. Not more than any other surgery, that is. (I am taking injury here in the sense that it is something that someone else inflicts on you against your desires)

My husband and teenage son are uncirc’d. I asked them and they pretty much repeated what Maastrict’s fiance said.

Yes, an ambiguous (or rather, unclearly defined) claim, imo.

Not a serious injury. Wouldn’t miss it if it was gone.

No. You cannot ask this question, forbid any qualifying statements and discourage all discussion, and get any answer other than “No.” I would consider the loss of my arm or leg, or reduction of function of a vital organ as “serious injury.” I’ve lost the tip of a finger in a woodworking mishap, and, as a man who uses a computer keyboard for a living, I don’t consider that a serious injury. Loss of my foreskin would be even less serious.

Having said that, the next question is, would I ever allow myself to be circumcised? Well, that’s the discussion you don’t want, but one I think is much more important.
