Uncollected NYC garbage breaks would-be suicide jumper's fall

Story here

This is a story of a mentally disturbed person surviving a tragedy, and should be treated solemnly.

AS IF!

It is times like this when I mourn the cancellation of Law and Order. Imagine the “ripped from the headlines” episode potential!

Don’t you mean trash-edy?

“Looks like somebody threw away a perfectly good white man!”

10 points to whoever knows where that came from.

Oh godDAMN!! It’s on the tip of my tongue, and I saw it in a theater. DAMMIT!!:smack:

Would that make him white trash?

“Boy”. “Looks like somebody threw away a perfectly good white boy.”

There’s also “Now that’s a real shame when folks be throwin’ away a perfectly good white boy like that” from a different movie.

Charlie Sheen to Emilio Estevez in Men at Work

Yeah, I know but it was a man in the news story. So I changed the one word but I figured people would still get it.

Better Off Dead. I watched that movie 21 times one summer.

And here I thought that society under libertarian rule wouldn’t have its upside.

Okay, the actual quote from BOD (according to IMDB) is “Now that’s a real shame when folks be throwin’ away a perfectly good white boy like that.” Maybe I need to watch it again.

Here’s hoping the department of sanitation doesn’t use this as an excuse not to do their jobs the next time we have a snowstorm.

From IMDB memorable quotes

Men at Work
Louis: Aww, lookie here. Looks like somebody threw away a perfectly good white boy!
[looks up to a poster of Jack Berger on a street sign]
Louis: And he sure looks a helluva lot like that dude!
Carl: We’re screwed!
James: What do you mean, we? You’re the one who pulled the trigger, pal!

::ahem::

I’m wondering if any there will be any charges placed.

I’m not aware of NY laws, but in most places, isn’t attempted suicide a crime? It also says in the article that the jumper was afraid of being evicted from his home. So if he can’t pay rent and gets put in jail for att. suicide, isn’t that a win-win for the jumper? After all, he can always get in a job placement program while in jail and have a job and a place to live after he does his time.

Right?

I don’t think losing a rent-controlled apartment and going to jail counts as a win-win. The guy was apparently depressed that his parents are sick and he was possibly going to be evicted from the apartment (which must belong to the parents), so he started overdoing it with drugs and alcohol and tried to kill himself a couple of different ways.

Ah, things are getting better. Originally he was suicidal and now he’s just down in the dumps.

I think he misunderstood what dumpster diving is all about.

Great, the trash puns have started. Well I refuse to participate in that.
