Under 38? Over 23? Read this!

I’m trying as hard as I can to forget Safety Dance. Dear Lord, how I try. Some nights I still wake up screaming.

plnnr: Pres and Basie forever!

Gosh. I thought Clear Channel Communications had gotten a “MIX” station in every market in America. I guess I was wrong!

Mix is okay - the play 80s, 90s, and a smattering of current stuff. But the 80s stuff they play lacks a certain - something. Except on holiday weekends (of which this past was considered one), when they play nothing but 80s and so they have to expand the playlist somewhat.

The 80s station on DirecTV rules. Too bad I can’t play it in my car. It’s digital music - no video involved (well - unless you really WANT to watch the little bubble graphics they put up.) They play everything - you can listen for 24 hours straight without hearing the same song twice.

Wumpus, Ivan from “Men without Hats” (Safety dance) came out with a song last year or so. It sucked just as badly. Some people just age, you know?

I for one would LOVE to hear some Howard Jones, and Icicle Works, and Opus, and old Depeche Mode. I used to listen to an 80s station on Spinner but they kept pinging us and shutting down the firewall, so I had to stop.

Nothing has shocked me more in the past week or so than actually realizing that my teenage years are retro now…

sigh

Oh, sweet youth, where hast thou gone? And can you pick up some classic DM cds while you’re out? Thanks…

jayjay

Well I am chillin in Philly, because our 80’s station 96.5 The Point has a no repeat work day! From 9 to 6 you never hear the same song twice. Makes the work day go so much better.

Especially the chart-topping stuff.

But there were exceptions… like the Pretenders, off the top of my head.

And I’m 36.

How did you arrive at the age range in the thread title?

::Jotting down Fiver’s name::

Now HERE is a fellow who can see beyond the marvelously garish eye make-up and creepy wigs into the wonder that is Siouxsie. This Wheel’s on Fire!

Manservant, you’ll be seduced by the dark side. Wait and see.

That, katiekilldare, will take a long, long time, and lots of convincing.

I just got home from work… the ride home is short, but I was able to catch Duran Duran singing Girls on Film..

What a country!

37, and loved 80’s music. Still do. Love late 60’s a little more, though: especially Janis Joplin.

Manservant, can we get something clear here … is it Siouxsie in general you object to, or just “Peek-A-Boo”? 'cause I agree it’s a horrid song, but there’s so much more to the Banshees…

[sub]following the footsteps of a rag doll dance, we are entranced … [/sub]

Well, the only song I ever heard by them was Peek-a-boo, and I HATED it. I suppose, though, that there may be other songs of merit. I cannot damn the artist’s work collectively for one song.

That was easier than I thought.

Well, if your purpose in posting this was to make me jealous of you, please be advised that you have succeeded. Ditto jarbabyj and Opengrave. I hate you all and I want to die ;).

Wow, KGAR is on the air. Shows how out of the loop I am. I was at the station when it was still in the development stage and the staff wanted to start a pool on what the format would be (management was still keeping us in the dark). Turns out we had to scrap the pool because everyone figured it would be '80s music.

I wonder if Starr is working for them now? She’s still on overnights with the Fox and they said something about her moving over when they geared up.

Thanks for the heads up, sdimbert, I’m going to tune in tomorrow.

Enderw24, I don’t know if I knew that you were a KC Doper. I now know about you, Homer, and Antracite.

You know of any others?

BTW, do you know if KGAR has a website? I can’t find it. I need to find a webcast of 105.1!

Well, I just found out it’s called EFM, not KGAR. KGAR was just the name they went under pre-launch before they settled on EFM. Between you and me, I like KGAR better.

I don’t think they have a website up yet. I looked under Susquehanna’s website (one of EFM’s two parent companies) and there’s nothing there. Then again, they still have 710’s old logo up (it changed around January), so I’d be VERY surprised to see a new station added that quickly.
Though I highly doubt it (I haven’t checked yet so there may be a possibility), you can try some of Susquehanna’s other websites, http://www.KCMOAM.com, http://www.oldies95.com, and http://www.KCFX.com and see if there’s a link to the new station.

Also, word from the DJ I talked to is that Starr isn’t coming over to the new station. Which is too bad, IMO. She’s a great dj who’s been working the graveyard shift for too long. Very sexy voice and, um, to put it mildly, drop dead gorgeous.

Ayup, I’m from KC. Actually, I found out that you were from KC back when we tried to get together and you had to back out because of Purim. Speaking of which, we need a dopefest!

Oooh!!! 80’s music!!!
I was born in 1976, so my earliest memories are of 80’s music… sort of. I recall listening to “Oh Carol” on the radio with my parents in '78, but that’s it for '70 music. Did you know that my mother had the Olivia Newton John LP - actually, her Greatest Hits, which was a double LP. It’s a wonder I turned out as well as I did.
Just lately I’ve been going through a huge nostalgia fest (actually, I’ve been going through it for about 5 years, but it’s only just fixated on music). I love getting all the old songs I remember hearing on the radio as a kid, but because I was very young in the early 80’s there are a lot of songs I know, but don’t know their names or the artists who sang them. I’ve been playing an 80’s music lottery on KaZaA, and just listening to heaps of songs from that decade. I’m glad I’m not the only one grin
I got my first cassette player in Grade 3 (aged 8 I think), and my first cassette was Michael Jackson’s Thriller. I still have it

There’s a proliferation of “mix” stations in my area (Balt-DC) that play “the best of the 80’s, 90’s and today,” but mostly 80’s, by the sound of it. I loved a lot of that music when it was current (before I discovered heavy metal) but now I can only take it in small doses.

Ahhhhh . . . Nothing like a little Safety Dance to liven up a dull afternoon’s drive home. I live in San Diego, and we have a couple of 80’s stations here now, although sooner or later they do all get in a rut. sigh But, if you catch them in the first few months, you can still enjoy some great nostalgic pop tunes like

Goody Two Shoes by Adam Ant
Take My Breath Away by Berlin
Voices Carry by 'Til Tuesday
Rock Me Amadeus by Falco
Take on Me by a-ha (not to be confused with the poster of the same name)

I could go on and on. And by the way, katiekilldare, I love Peek-a-boo!
