Under what circumstances do we disappear a thread or post?

Spam, of course. When else? I ask, because the recently departed SoulFrost had started a thread here which I read and posted in, which called out TubaDiva, Czarcasm, and the rest of mods for doing a poor job. Now that thread has vanished. I’m curious why, and what our general policy is here on disappearing non-spam threads and posts.
