unemployed again

I was layed off again last week. Nothing serious. Just til buisness picks up again.

Until a couple of hours ago. I was notified I am no longer on the call back list.
The only thing I could think to say is" you’re kidding."

I was working for Adecco at an electronics plant here in town.
I was just a production worker but I have a 2 year electronics degree and many many years experience working with electronics.
You can probably imagine my shock when I asked why and the Adecco rep said “quality.”
Hell I know I have more experience in electronics than most of the permanent company people.
No one ever even mentioned quality issues with my work.I just can’t believe it.

I’ve been there about a year and a half with about a 5 month layoff last year.
I’ve survived all the layoffs this year. About 3/4 of us adeccos are now layed off so this quality thing must have just happened.
The only thing I can figure is I’m getting near the 2 year mark when the company has to hire us full time or get rid of us.
Its well known the company does not want to hire production workers.

I don’t like working for a temporary service but they seem to control all the good jobs.

Perhaps its a good thing. I was making only 2/3 of what the company workers working next to me were making and I had no benefits.

Well ,back into survival mode.

At least you’re taking it well. After working for them that long and suddenly getting news that your quality of work isn’t up to par…that would really piss me off. Did they at least establish a pattern of poor work quality in a bi-yearly review? I’m guessing not…

That really stinks. I wouldn’t be surprised if it had nothing to do with the quality of your work. I know lots of people who were let go by various places just as they were reaching that limit where the company had to take them on full time. They hired a fresh batch of temps. Why are they allowed to do that?

I’m sure you’ll find something new in no time!

The one word “quality” answer reminds me of the shift boss at one of my 89-day wonders turing away and mumbling “you’re not meeting the standards of service” (this at a joint where I knew I was doing my job better than at least half of my coworkers and giving better customer service than at least three quarters of them.)

In other words, a code word for, “you’ll be eligible for higher pay and benefits soon, and the company doesn’t want to pony up.”

So sorry to hear about this.

You’ll find a new job soon.

Never pay any attention to why companies say they let you go. They’re not interested in being honest; their main concern is not getting sued.

Just out of curiosity, what’s wrong with working for a temp agency? Is it just that the positions are not long term, and chances of advancement are nil? Or is there something else? I’m just wondering, because I’m contemplating semi-retirement (not yet, but hopefully in a few years), and thought temping might be a good thing.

Sorry for the hijack, and doubly sorry for your situation.

I’m sorry to hear that, justwannano. I was laid off about a month ago from a small financial company, but I was only there three and a half months. The company was growing so much that they had to buy a new building…and lay off about 20 people. (I hope their pretty new building burns to the ground.)

Here’s hoping that you find another substantial employment opportunity quickly, and that you’re back on your feet financially!

I’ll try to answer your questions

Temp agencys are ok except we have 4 of them in this town of 8K.You cannot get a factory job without going through a temp agency.
