Unexpected Enthusiasm for Harris?

No audience at the debates. If there were I would go with humour and pull the audience in. Oooooh, big scary guy behind me, sooooo scary.
Get them to laugh at him

Trump pretty much eliminated any possibility of a “roam around the stage” debate, wouldn’t you say? No one’s letting that shit show happen again.

Okay, how about if she stares at him for one solid minute, then bursts into that famous laugh of hers? :slightly_smiling_face:

You know what would be an awesome shot? Harris on a stage with Taylor Swift. Like, Swift would have looked like she was visiting Grandpa with Biden. It’s just hard to imagine. But with Harris, it would, I dunno, match the zeitgeist? It would reinforce that youth and strength and optimism.

Go for the jugular: “Rapist Donald”.

This election isn’t about getting the MAGAs to vote for Harris. They’re not going to vote for Harris. Not gonna happen.

It’s to some extent about trying to get some of the people who don’t want either Trump or Biden and were thinking of going third-party to vote for Harris.

It’s to a very large extent about getting people who, if they’re going to vote, will vote Democratic to show up. I really do think it’s going to come down to the turnout.

Yeah she is.

I always thought she got crapped on by Democrats for her performance in those debates.

I’ve been watching her speeches of late. I really feel she’s ready.

This is going to be HOT.

Here’s a list of national Democratic officeholders who have and have not endorsed her. She’s at an astonishing 262 of 286, and looking at the remaining 24 holdouts, I’m not sure I see a single surprise on there. (I have no idea why Joe Manchin is on this list, he changed his registration to independent)

He’s listed, along with Senators Angus King and Kyrsten Sinema, likely because, though they are independents, they still caucus with the Democrats.

I got curious on the CA (1/3 the total):

Jim Costa endorsed yesterday.

Anna Eshoo is 80 and retiring and seems enthusiastic. She’s certainly de facto endorsing her, if she hasn’t yet formally.

Grace Napolitano is 87 and also retiring. She’s been carefully politically complimentary about Harris in the past. Non-endorsement so far likely means nothing in particular.

Juan Vargas as noted just more or less says “I’m voting for whoever the Dem is.”

Josh Harder owes Harris a little bit, but so far is playing it close to the vest, having refused to comment on either Biden getting out or endorse Harris.

Lou Correa seems to have been a Biden loyalist. What he’s thinking who knows.

I imagine they’re all de facto coming from peer pressure if nothing else. But maybe Harder and Correa want to be iconoclasts.

I’m pleasantly surprised not just by the general enthusiasm, but also my own.

I voted for Harris for attorney general and for senator and was pleased with the results. VP doesn’t really count, as it’s hard to imagine a democratic VP nominee that would have stopped me voting against Trump in '20, even considering I thought it likely, at the time, that Biden had cut a deal to carry the party through the election and retire in a year or two.

She’s been pretty quiet, ISTM, these last 4 years and I wasn’t sure she was up for it. But now I am. I got the wallet out, and started sharing my enthusiasm.

I imagine she’ll take a page out of the Obama playbook and nominate a center left white guy for VP, and the two of them will hoover up middle of the road votes like crazy.

It’s been quite a roller coaster ride, from the SOTU to the convictions to the debate to the million dollar wound to fucking President Kamala Harris. Yes, I am pumped.

I think what got lost in all the Biden angst was optimism. I always said that the Democratic message should focus on moving forward versus looking back. But Biden’s long career made that more difficult. Now we can contrast a positive view of the country (everything’s getting better and it’s going to be even more awesome in the future) with the pessimistic view (it’s a hellhole that needs to be fixed). Outrage can be motivating but ultimately people want to feel good about the future. You have one candidate who is a generally happy person, known for laughing too much and one who spends his time complaining about how horrible things are.

Seen on twitter:

Yes we Kam!

“Kamaleesi”

I saw LOTUS FOR POTUS (“Kamala” means “lotus”).

I like the idea that Biden can now step back from campaigning (which he wasn’t doing well at) and quietly continue to be the excellent president he’s been for the past 3 1/2 years. And even better, he has the SCOTUS endorsement to do some pretty radical stuff. I rather hope he does - like increase the court from 9 to 13.
I wasn’t a huge fan of Harris back in 2020. She kind of melted into the background of the 100 potential candidates. She’s had 4 years of training under a truly excellent president and it shows.
I’m feeling unexpectedly hopeful.

It doesn’t work that way. The ruling stated the president has criminal immunity for doing things that are part of their presidential duties and powers. It didn’t give the president more powers. The number of justices is set by statute through Congress not by the president.

How about “Cowardly Lyin’ Donald”?

How about Donald the Cowardly Liar?

I also was originally dismayed at first the talk of getting rid of Biden and then replacing him with Harris. I thought she was too not male and white to win. My son, a Millennial, was instantly chuffed (sorry, watching a lot of English cooking shows on YT). But all this enthusiasm is catchy. And the fact that NONE of the events of the last two weeks-- and there was a lot-- was enough to give Trump even the slightest bump in the polls.

Fingers crossed, y’all!

Too many people thought that way, because they were burdened by what has been.

When Maggie Thatcher ran for PM, many people criticized her voice. After a short period of voice coaching, her voice dropped a register and became much more acceptable.
