This pertains to a dishwasher purchased at Home Depot to replace our old one. As I am very far from handy, we paid to have it installed as well. We knew this installation would be handled through a third party.
Our experience with this third party, otherwise known as XPO Enterprises, was not a happy one. While they didn’t do anything actually crooked, the end result is…well, the dishwasher has not been installed, the order has been canceled, and it is not just Ulf who is currently unwashed.
I called Home Depot to lodge a complaint with them regarding this company (did I say they were called XPO Enterprises? well they are), making sure to point out that due to issues with the subcontractor (an outfit called XPO Enterprises) Home Depot wound up losing a sale. I also wrote a product review for the dishwasher stating that unfortunately I didn’t know how well it worked because of the shenanigans with the subcontractor (XPO Enterprises that is) and recommending that people make alternative arrangements rather than work with these guys. And I will be telling people I know about the situation.
Is there anything else I could (or should) be doing? Is there any value in contacting the Better Business Association? Some clearinghouse for consumer complaints I don’t know about? As I said, this is not a criminal issue (assuming they actually do refund my money), more an issue of not being upfront about things, general incompetence, and a colossal waste of our time and energy. Any suggestions about where else, if indeed anywhere, to go with this would be welcomed.
The BBB always seems to side with the business (after all, that’s who is paying them), but it won’t hurt to file a complaint. It will at least cause XPO Enterprises to respond, much like my complaint against Spectrum Flooring caused them to have to respond.
did you talk with Home Depot about having them find another contractor to install it? i think they want to have a few available to have rapid quality installations.
Want to have different installers? Yes. Actually do? Rarely. Home Depot generally has only one installer for each installation service offered. Because they’re so big (second-largest retailer in the world), they contract whenever they can with big, national or regional installation companies, and there aren’t that many.
It would be nice if Home Depot had in-house installers, instead of relying on subcontractors, but they’re just too big for that. (And that would put me out of a job, too…)
I would write or call Home Despot’s corporate customer service office and let them know that thanks to the incompetence of their subcontractor they lost a sale and left you with a negative attitude towards their business.
Oh I see you already did that, but it’s not clear if you called your local store or corporate headquarters. I have always gotten some kind of response – at least an acknowledgement of the situation – from the head office. Often they will offer you some comp for the hassle.
Start a website called XPOEnterprises_sucks.com. If they don’t like it, offer to sell it to them for the price of a new installation. Plus an aggravation fee.
Perhaps there is more than one company called XPO Enterprises? Because the first result on that name is for a company that describes itself thusly, “a unique multidisciplinary business venture company comprised of former senior executives from leading marketing, financial, event planning, licensing, real estate development, database analysis, and internet companies. Our team is devoted to excellence in providing professional services and advice to develop and grow your business.”
That doesn’t sound like a company that installs appliances for Home Depot.
Wait, a further Google search comes up with a company called XPO Last Mile, which mentions appliance delivery and installation as one of its services.
Wait, you didn’t give the product a bad review, did you? You’d never do that, right? Because I hate it when people downgrade the product in their review due to something that has nothing to do with the actual product (“I’m giving this only 1 star because the installer didn’t come through!” or “I thought it was going to wash my clothes, but apparently it’s intended to wash dishes!”) It skews the ratings. Lots of people may check out product ratings at Home Depot’s website even while opting to buy it through another store.
Was this an existing dishwasher that you replaced? A replacement just slides in. Connect the hoses and electrical.
You can buy the dishwasher from Home Depot and get someone else to install it. Any appliance service company can install it if the connections are there.
For a brand new installation. I’d call a plumber to make the needed plumbing connections. Then you’d need an electrician to install the outlet. Its rare these days to have a home without dishwasher connections.
I got a new washer / dryer from HD in Nov 2013. It was delivered, unpacked, and they hooked up the washer. They setup the dryer. I had to get a plumber to run a gas line to finish the installation.
I was pleased overall. They installers didn’t put the feet on the dryer. A minor PITA for me and my plumber. I had to lean the dryer back while the plumber screwed in the feet. Not a big deal but it was the installers job to do that.
Lowes uses the same people and they suck so hard the force of all the sucking might knock the earth out of orbit. We bought a washer and dryer and XPO took 5 attempts to deliver them, making us take several vacation days off of work and more than a month of using the laundromat while they figured out now to take their heads out of their asses long enough to do their damn jobs. Now we are replacing the water heater and I would not even consider having them deliver it. We’ve hired a contractor we love and he is willing to go pick up and bring the water heater from the store for an extra fee, which will be well worth every penny if it means we get the exact product we ordered and it gets delivered and installed right the first time.
Go talk to the Home Depot store manager in person and be nice, but factual. State exactly what happened and what you would like them to do at this point to make up for your inconvenience.
