The murdered victim of the Nazi scum has been identified as Heather heyer, 32. I sure hope that is not Sailboat’s wife.
The sad fact is we have a filthy piece of trash for President, one who has a long history of pandering to white extremists. And we have some real pieces of trash on this Board who feel no compunction about defending Nazism, belying the simplistic notion that this Board is any sort of “family.” I put trash like that on Ignore, and I would caution other not to feed the trolls.
Who here has actually defended Nazism - that is, the ideology of white supremacy and racial genocide? Please cite them.
What I see is a classic confrontation involving the principle of free speech (including the right to express hate speech). Defending the rights of white supremacist to express themselves should not be seen as defending white supremacy. This point must not be lost amid the scrambling as we react to this debacle.
What I see then, if not Nazis, are useful idiots like you that still have trouble understanding that the Thread is not really about free speech **because someone did not use speech in this case to counter the opposition. **
And in this case it is clear that we are really defending also the free speech of the ones that oppose racism, slavery and genocide.
‘Those who want to live, let them fight, and those who do not want to fight in this world of eternal struggle do not deserve to live.’ – Adolf Hitler
That was on at least one shirt this weekend. The piece of shit was also packing a gun. He was probably hoping to use it.
I have seen several posts in this thread advocating that we ban speech that is sympathetic to Nazism and white supremacy, as well as several responses stating that such a ban would be wrong in principle.
When acts of violence are involved, it obviously is no longer a matter of speech.
I might start a thread specifically on this so as to avoid conflating it with reaction to the terrorist car attack.
Most people aren’t advocating for the suppression of free speech, and we don’t take kindly to broad pronouncements showing up in this thread and elsewhere about the stance of ‘‘the board’’ or ‘‘the left’’ on these issues.
I don’t agree that all people on the right are Nazi sympathizers. I do agree that Trump’s refusal to take a hard-lined stance, and use of violent and racially charged rhetoric, have made him the candidate of choice for white supremacists. And that he is 100% ethically to blame for that. And that his actions empowered Nazis to come out of the shadows and do their gross Nazi thing. And some people, even on this board, apparently love Trump more than they hate Nazis.
What I don’t understand is why people are so vociferous about the free speech issue when their right to free speech was fully exercised, with a really shitty, violent outcome, so twisting these pieces of shit into ‘‘victims’’ worthy of defense is incomprehensible to me and many others. I have seen all day long people on this board attempt to minimize how actually bad it is to be a Nazi in order to buttress their free speech arguments. And those turning this back on the left? That is reprehensible bullshit.
