Yesterday I was hearing some talk radio panelist trying to fight the whole rest of the panel on how Trump had won while even the other RW leaning participants were trying to get him to understand: you really win when you have achieved your goals and you stop fighting.

Or simply quit caring about conducting the war, apparently. (The bolding is mine.)

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump arrives at an awkward moment for his presidency on Friday as the U.S.-Israel war against Iran reaches the six-month mark, a notable milestone for a conflict that the Republican leader repeatedly assured Americans would be a “little excursion” lasting a matter of weeks.

The war isn’t over, though Trump claims that through bombs and blockade, he has already devastated Iran’s leadership, military and economy.

And this week his administration said it would turn its focus to increasing economic pressure — rather than military action — to try to finish off Iran. The shifting strategy centers on threats to punish any country or entity that continues to conduct business with Tehran.

The turn to using sanctions as the cudgel of choice comes as the administration weighs diminished munitions stockpiles after months of war, sparking concerns that the prolonged conflict could undermine U.S. military readiness in other parts of the globe.

As the conflict grinds on, Trump’s talk of finding a quick end to the war also appears to be fading. He stressed this week that he’s “not in a hurry” to get Iran back to the negotiating table, and he continues making the case that the Islamic Republic’s leadership is on the ropes.

"They’re not paying their troops. They’re in deep trouble. They have very little capacity," Trump told reporters Thursday. “We don’t want to speak to them. We’re not looking to meet or anything,” he said.

First, how does he know if the troops are not getting paid? Second, really? You don’t want to negotiate an end to your vanity war? Oops! Silly of me. That adjective is all one needs to know as to why he doesn’t. This has been his longest lasting squirrel ever in his entire life.

That works in some places. No one that the US has fought a war with lately is in a position to attack the US directly, so you could just walk away and ignore the mess.

But walking away from Iran leaves them in control of the strait, and no one can just ignore that. If Trump trys to do this, everyone in the world will know that Iran beat him. All the stuff that’s been blown up can be rebuilt, but control of the strait gives Iran enough power to do almost anything that they want.

But I just learned that Trump is intervening personally and degrading carrier production.

President Donald Trump signed a national security memorandum directing the U.S. Navy to replace the electromagnetic aircraft launch system (EMALS) with traditional steam-powered catapults and hydraulic systems… The order specifically targets the USS Doris Miller (the fourth Gerald R. Ford-class carrier), which is already under construction and behind schedule.

This is not the only part of Trump’s program to “Make America’s Carriers Great Again.”

President Trump has ordered the U.S. Navy to implement design changes that include relocating the carrier’s island superstructure.

As of August 2026, the White House directed the Navy to review moving the multi-story command tower forward toward the midpoint of the ship.

Trump is pushing for the relocation primarily on aesthetic grounds. He wants the future Ford-class carriers to visually mirror the profile of World War II-era aircraft carriers (such as the Essex-class). In response to the directive to “implement design changes to our future aircraft carriers,” Navy officials confirmed they have begun moving out on options to meet his intent. An internal engineering review regarding the superstructure’s placement is underway.

Not that anyone believed the ceasefire would last, now they have proof it wouldn’t.

Iran retaliated against US forces on Sunday after the US military struck Iranian rocket launchers, a US official said, marking the first escalation between the sides in over a month.

Iranian missiles fired into Jordan have been intercepted, the official said, and no impacts have been reported so far.

The attacks came after the US military struck Iran’s Larak Island, where it observed Iranian forces preparing to launch rockets with mines into the Strait of Hormuz.

CNN has reached out to US Central Command for comment on the Iranian attack.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said early Monday local time that it launched missile and drone strikes against two US air bases in Jordan in response to the US attack, according to a statement carried by state broadcaster IRIB.

Trump is very obviously desperate to conclude this war with some sort of positive story prior to the November elections. But it’s not all up to him. I expect Iran knows this very well, and is not especially eager to assist Trump with his electoral concerns. So I’m expecting Iran to sporadically disrupt shipping in the Strait, ramping it up in October.

Operation Epic Fury is over!

The Pentagon told service members last month to stop calling ongoing U.S. military operations against Iran “Operation Epic Fury,” an Air Force email obtained by CBS News in August shows.

The Aug. 7 guidance, first reported Tuesday by CBS News, directed senior public affairs officers to refer instead to “overseas operations in the U.S. Central Command Area of Responsibility.”

Responding to CBS’ questions, the Pentagon said Wednesday that “Operation Epic Fury,” the combat campaign that began Feb. 28 with joint U.S. and Israeli strikes, officially ended May 5, roughly three months before the internal guidance went out.

Until this week, the Pentagon and U.S. Central Command had for months declined to disclose a formal end date.

Not to worry, though. There’s still another mission to keep the US military fighting.

The May 5 marker matches the day Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters at the White House, “The operation is over. ‘Epic Fury’ is, the president notified Congress, we’re done with that stage of it. We’re now on to this ‘Project Freedom,’” a reference to a defensive maritime mission to protect commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

And what does that mean for the service members who will surely die in this debacle?

A War Department official told CBS that, since “Epic Fury” has concluded, casualties are now classified as overseas operations within CENTCOM’s area of responsibility.
