United States and Israel are bombing Iran

They won’t even say our name, and they want us to recognize their “legitimate rights”? Fuck 'em.

That’s a reason to bomb them?

I just want them to recognize our legitimate rights, same as them, as part of our terms for ending the war. Respect is a two-way street.

And as someone who has suffered over 100 air raid sirens in the past two weeks, spending over 20 hours in my building’s bomb shelter, I must note that the bombing is decidedly mutual.

I get that taking the island could harm Iran, but there’s lots of things that could harm Iran. I don’t see how harming Iran in this way significantly impacts the overall circumstances of the war, which are pretty much entirely about the Strait of Hormuz at this point.

A brief Google/Wikipedia search leads me to believe that Kharg Island is supplied by a single, main pipeline. I didn’t take the time to try to locate where the pipeline leaves the mainland but it looks like Bandar Ganaveh (to the northeast) would make sense. Wouldn’t targeting pumping stations there make more sense? At least, as an incremental tactic? The result would be the same but would be easier to repair if/when hostilities end.

Also, there is an almost empty island just off the north end of Kharg. What are those round sand berms? Containment for possible leaks? Actually, the whole island appears to have a berm near the water.

Not if the goal was to keep the oil infrastructure intact. To facilitate looting the oil.

So far, it’s been reported that only defensive facilities on the island have been attacked. You know, to prevent them from interfering with aforementioned looting.

or maybe, just maybe to facilitate enabling a functioning economy for Iran after the war.

If somehow the Ayatollah’s regime actually falls and the decent half of Iranian society takes charge, they are going to need a lot of money to convince the population that regime change was worth it. (Remember, the mass protests against the Ayatollah three months ago were sparked by economic problems and low salaries.)

The pipes and pumps on Kharg island provide about15% of Iran’s total GDP, and a huge percentage of its foreign currency.

Iran has multiple inexpensive ways to keep the Strait of Hormuz closed essentially indefinitely. This has been widely understood for decades - I remember briefings while in the Navy before crossing the Strait about how dangerous it could be.

This war is being run by idiots and was monumentally stupid to begin with. We’re handing one of our oldest geopolitical enemies a relatively easy way to say they beat the US - all they have to do is keep the pressure on the Strait until Trump gets fed up about rising prices, declares victory, and goes home. Dumb dumb dumb and thousands dead, including Americans.

Not doing this in this thread. No.

That applies to the State of Palestine too?

Operationally or politically?
Operationally blockading Iran exports would be child’s play for the U.S. Navy.
Politically stopping Chinese flagged tankers or other third party nation tankers could be more complicated but blockades are a time honored tactic in war that it is even “legal” so far as war tactics can be legal.

I note that in just the time it took me to quote it, they changed “suicide skiff” to “explosive boats”. Someone likely decided that was too heavy-handed propaganda even for them. I suppose missiles are “suicide darts”, then.

They’re called drones (or various acronyms), just like all the other drones everyone is using these days.

Moderating:

Absolutely not, this thread is not for Palestine. I know you can locate those threads. I will hide your post.

Or until his term of office expires. I don’t see this ending within his favorite time frame of “two weeks” by a long shot.

Trump has such a famously short attention span that I will predict a few months maximum as his limit. But I’m aware that’s just a guess.

Arab village in Israel hit by Iranian missiles.

Trump says “many countries” will be sending their navies to the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump says he’s not going to talk about a ceasefire.

I’m not sure Trump is aware of what 100% means. If the enemy can still disrupt shipping then their military isn’t 100% neutralized.

From the same link in my last post above:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t killing people just for fun a crime?

Remember, this is the man who is going to reduce drug prices by 1500%.

And it’s not the military disrupting the shipping, it’s terrorists or Muslims (but I repeat myself /s).

Never mind.
