United States Supreme Court - Judgment from the Bench?

Now that the USSC has announced that it will hear the Bush appeal, the pundits are talking about how quickly the Court will rule, and how that plays into Bush’s hands, because of the deadlines on December 12 and 18. One fellow mentioned that the quickest decision from the Court was four days after the hearing, in the Pentagon papers case.

Got me wondering - given the urgency and the deadlines, is there any possibility that the Court could render judgement from the bench, at the conclusion of the argument? If there is a majority that knows how they will decide it, and roughly what their reasons will be, why not announce it, reasons to follow, so that the Goreites and the Bushies know where they stand? Especially if the Court allows the recounts to continue?

I would think that they would at least want to discuss it privately for a few minutes, but not too long. However the impression that I get is that there desisions have already been made, unless one of the lawers really bomb their arguements.

If they do rule for Gore though, will there be enough time to complete the count?
