I’m still wrapping my head around how you could make a film about Pong. What do you have to work with? Two bars and one dot. But maybe they can even expand it to the sequel Pong 2, now with four bars and one dot.
Make it a cliffhanger sequel from Breakout: Just as Our Hero finishes destroying the last of the blocks and is about to enjoy a well-earned rest, suddenly a second paddle appears from space.
Universal optioned the rights to 10 games, but they are not announcing plans for 10 Atari movies. Or am I misreading the article?
That seems to be correct: Universal bought one script from Entertainment 720 360 and Atari while optioning the IP to 10 games.
Universal has not commented on the deal yet.
Has anyone ever made an Empire Strikes Back movie? Because I spent a lot of time on that game… it’s about time someone brought it to the big screen.
Make it a horror movie where if you don’t keep the dot bouncing around, something terrible happens. The game is keeping the doors shut on a prison full of monsters or something but it breaks in some way and someone has to sit there and play it manually to prevent disaster. This of course fails miserably and monsters wreak havoc.

Clearly you make it a sports movie about a Table Tennis champion. If Kevin Costner can make endless movies about baseball, surely there is a way to port that concept over to other less familiar sports too.

There have been good movies made from unlikely source material before (The Lego Movie, Clue), but there have also been plenty of bad ones.

I think Berzerk could be turned into a legitimately cool movie. My assumption, of course, is that they’ll screw it up, as they would any movie made from a game on the list. But I saw Berzerk there and couldn’t help but imagine a dark, sleek, claustrophobic action flick. Ryan Gosling could be our heroic protagonist, and Evil Otto would be played by … hmm, Michael Fassbender, maybe?

Not going to lie, I’d watch a Yar’s Revenge movie. I had the copy of the game that came with a cassette tape explaining the game’s backstory. I remember pretty much nothing about that back story, except I loved the fuck out of it when I was seven.
