If you play a George Carlin clip to a 5 year old, they won’t get it either, doesn’t mean he has failed, it just means that someone watched it that was not able to understand it.
From the reaction, the majority of his class got it, so not a failure to the audience it was intended for, only to those who decided to stick their nose in without understanding what it was they are looking at.
From what I’ve seen so far, this professor is terrific.
This happens all too often. At the college that I just retired from, one teacher said “Look, you’re all going to get A Minuses. I’ve got two years to go here, and I don’t care.”
Proud to say, I did the opposite. My last year was full of assignments, strategies, and field trips that I’d always wanted to try. I really feel I went out on a high note.
With a few choice f-bombs as well…
I have never given so many low and failing grades than I did my last semester before I retired. Students were probably glad to see me go. (They probably thought I would go easy on them since I was leaving.)
Imagine their surprise when I got called back to teach one more class last semester.
I used to play the clip of Mr. Hand from Fast Times at Ridgemont High where he introduced his syllabus. That’s who this professor reminded me of.
