Unknown Marker

This is a photo of a fountain at UT Arlington. Can someone please identify anything about it?

Thank you.

Did you take the picture? I’m guessing that if you go to the one in the back and look through it AND the one in the foreground you’d see something, however, Googling is getting me nowhere.

No, it was taken by a student who asked me if I know what it represents. I will ask her to go look thru the two circles and tell me if she saw anything.

Even better, message them on Facebook, it says they ‘typically reply within minutes’, so even if someone isn’t watching their FB page right now, you’ll probably have an answer by morning. But it wouldn’t surprise me if someone keeps a close eye on the FB page since students might use that as way to communicate with them. It’s faster than trying to find an email address.

XKCD

It looks like there’s a plaque at the bottom of that monument. Perhaps whatever it says is relevant?

Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honors Society…

In the courtyard formed by the angle of Woolf Hall.

Thank You!!!

What does the plaque say? It’s too small on my iPad and I can’t expand it.

TIA

It says:
TAU BETA PI
TEXAS ?? ???
CHARTERED 1904
THE NATIONAL ENGINEERING
HONOR SOCIETY
RECOGNIZING EXCELLENCE AND
INTEGRITY IN ENGINEERING

The “?? ???” part may be “AD <Roman numeral date>”, but I don’t have much confidence in that.
Per wiki Tau Beta Pi - Wikipedia their motto is “Integrity and Excellence in Engineering”.

No, I don’t know why “Excellence” and “Integrity” are in opposite order between wiki & the plaque. It’s clear they’re different; I’m not misreading it.

??=ETA CHAPTER

qqq

Agreed. Good work!

Per List of Tau Beta Pi chapters - Wikipedia that school is the “Texas Eta” chapter of TBP. That last word is very badly eroded but “chapter” certainly fits both the word length and the likely intent.

I can read the entire sign just fine. Here’s how it looks on my computer. TEXAS ETA CHAPTER is, for sure, what it says.

Also this … the two markers line up ?

I wonder if they are perfectly east west, and the sun will be seen through the two loops , once or twice a year…
