Steve Wynn will be opening his brand-new billion dollar casino in Las Vegas in another year or so. He said this will be his biggest and best ever This is the guy who once owned/built Golden Nugget, Mirage, Treasure Island and Bellagio. In other words, this casino oughta be a doozy.
I read he is already planning the opening concert.
Years ago, MGM Grand pulled Streisand out of the woodwork and that show sold out fast for unbelievable prices. (Say what you will, but that was quite a feat to get her to perform live after so many years!)
Who could Steve Wynn book for the opening concert that would have the same “wow” factor - someone who may not do concerts often, or a group (that is still alive) that he could convince to get back together.
In other words, if money were no object, who would you (try to)book into his casino for opening night?
How do people always beat me here? However, I agree with the Zeppelin nominations. I think you would get a lot of people who, like me, never got the chance to see them live (curse you Paul Simon, I was not born at the right time).
I know DMark gave the condition that the performers must be alive, but I think a Queen reunion would be huge. Replacing Freddie Mercury would be an unbelievably huge challenge.
How did Robbie Williams fare in Mercury’s role? I know that he fronted Queen in the studio to do “We Will Rock You” on A Knight’s Tale soundtrack.
Heaven forgive me for saying it, but Streisand is probably who Winn would want — you want to pull in older, monied folks as opposed to rockin’ fans dropping by.
Having said that, Sir Paul doing some Beatles stuff with Ringo on drums would be pretty "ef"ing cool (with maybe Julian Lennon + Ravi Shankar and/or his daughter Anoushka on stage for the Indian Harrison stuff?).
Pink Floyd, Zep, Faces, Go-Go’s, Van Halen w. DLRoth for the one show b4 the killed him, would all make me say wow – but not enough to consider flying into Vegas just to see them
