Simple thread; share your most unpopular opinions with other dopers. Let’s not get in too much of a fight
Are you insane?
You are insane.
The point of this forum is to share unpopular opinions one thread at a time.
That Voter ID laws are generally a wise public policy.
Possibly tied with the idea that attacks against public figures, even vilified figures, should be evaluated on their truth and not the villainy of the target.
I don’t think **femmejean **is a troll.
I don’t either.
I’ve found this one to be surprisingly unpopular on this board. Enough so that I won’t discuss it because I’ve found “discussions” tend to be personal attacks. But I think it’s possible Edward de Vere wrote the Shakespeare plays.
Not sure if you’re sarcastic or not but I’ll share mine.
I believe that violence that causes serious bodily harm is justified in circumstances that are not only in self defense.
For example, If a kid is constantly being bullied in school by a group of boys for being feminine and then he goes home and gets bullied for the same thing then, I think that if he were to knife any one of them, he should get of scott free provided he is not a repeat offender.
Honestly some people deserve to get whats coming to them when they have been warned. I don’t buy into this idea that ‘killing is always wrong’. There are situations outside combat and self defense where physical violence is totally justified.
We have had threads on this before. But -
- The American firebombing of Japan in World War II was a war crime.
- Evolution has less scientific basis than creationism.
- It is inconsistent to support same-sex marriage and oppose polygamy.
- Rather than raising the minimum wage, we should have currency *deflation *and make a dollar buy more/go further.
- People who claim to be “tolerant” are often highly intolerant.
- “The Handmaid’s Tale” is a straw-man work of fiction, in the sense that it’s not a dystopia that could happen, yet is intended to pretend as if it is something that *could *happen.
- Men and women are not equal in terms of characteristics.
- There are only two genders.
- Barack Obama’s race was a factor in his *favor *in the 2008 election.
- The U.S. policy of nuclear nonproliferation is hypocritical.
- Hillary’s 2-percent popular vote victory over Trump is nothing to brag about. The margin logically should have been far larger.
- Many environmentalists/animal-rights activists are flat-out misanthropes/people-haters.
- The best government is a good dictatorship; democracy is overrated.
- The media is biased and we need far tighter restrictions on the press.
- Many gun supporters and gun opponents are both crazy.
- Diversity isn’t necessarily a good thing, depending on situation.
- The United States should spend even more on national defense.
- Affirmative action should end.
- Many liberals don’t consider Asian-Americans to be a “true” minority.
- For free speech to truly be free speech, there has to be more than just merely legal protection.
- The ivory-tower notion of the past half-century - “There is no such thing as objective truth” and “there is no right or wrong” got its logical comeuppance last year when fake news got Donald Trump elected.
- Americans don’t give the topic of death or mortality enough thought.
- A huge national crisis - like a massive enemy attack or a non-nuclear World War III - might be good for America and the West, psychologically and morally. Might be just what America and the West needs.
- Voter ID is entirely reasonable.
- God exists.
- We need a 30-hour workweek, and 5 weeks of vacation a year.
- China and Russia deserve to each lose a big war in the near future.
- The YF-23 was better than the YF-22 (not so controversial,) the X-32 was better than the X-35.
- The Pittsburgh Steelers are the most cheating, dirtiest, ref-aided team in all of sports.
- Messi is better than Ronaldo.
- Racial discrimination in dating is racist.
- If Romney had won in 2012, we wouldn’t have President Trump today.
I’m a Christian. That’s an unpopular opinion on this board.
I think sex offender registries are total bullshit, don’t do any good, and also are probably unconstitutional.
This I totally agree with.
What irks me even more is that, many schools seem to have a “If A hits B, and B hits back, then punish only B but not A.” It *rewards *aggression. Many referees in sports will do this too.
Coffee smells like boiled sweatsocks, and tastes even worse.
Celery tastes like how someone dragging their nails down a chalkboard sounds.
I don’t believe virginity Is as common as it used be.
In working days and sleeping nights.
That black is black and white is white…
That Superman and Robinhood are still alive in Hollywood.
That gasoline’s in short supply.
The rising cost of getting by.
Not according to my mum.
“I don’t care who started it! You’re older and should know better!”
For that matter, I don’t think **Machinaforce **is a troll, either. I think he’s a very logical, negative, person, whose thoughts often are philosophically sound and makes valid points, although his relentless style has really worn out his welcome with many folks here, and negativity can come across as highly tiresome to many.
I don’t think Douglas Adams or Kurt Vonnegut were particularly good writers.
I believe that nobody should own a handgun.
I have no problem speaking ill of the dead. If they spent a life making others miserable, then fuck 'em.
But do you believe in love? How about old folks and children?
