Anyone who has read even half of page 1 of this thread would have understood that pinkfreud’s husband was rescuing animals on his way back from helping the humans! I don’t recall anyone making the assertion that animals were being rescued to the exclusion of humans. Maybe there were no humans in the area to be rescued at the time. How about we comment on facts, rather than assumptions.

Let’s say I’m in New Orleans right now. I am one of the lucky ones in that my house was spared and I and my dog have made it through unharmed. I am walking my dog when I spot an armed looter shoot a policeman in the head and kill him. My dog breaks free and rushes into the street just as a building starts to collapse. I can save the murderer or my dog. I would save the dog every time.
I’m not at all surprised at Bull’s cowardice and hypocrisy in this thread. My main encounter with him before was his telling stupid lies about me, and then, when confronted with his lies, refusing either to back up what he said or back out of what he said: instead, he resorted to something about two levels down from “neener neener!” in an attempt to disguise his dishonesty.
He’s got no honor, and he’s got no integrity; why should he have any reason?

I don’t even see why we have to excuse this guy on the grounds that he’s helping humans first and pets second. The people who can be helped, are being helped and I doubt there’s much Mr. Freud could do but get in the way.
From what I can tell, there’s no shortage of volunteers for passing out bottled water, MREs & blankets. What the Mayor of NO is screaming for are troops, busses and helicopters. Can Mr. Freud provide that? No?
Then by all means let him go down there with the express, primary purpose of saving pets. Someone should be doing it.
I agree with Shodan. (Oh my god, did I just type that?) I love animals, always grew up with pets and am saving the money towards a pet deposit so I can have a cat in my apartment. But all the people crying, say, over that little boy who had his dog taken away from him when he was evacuated, well, that just makes me a little peeved. Sure, it sucks to have your animal taken away, but it would suck just a little bit more to be the person who couldn’t get on the bus because your space was taken away by a dog. And in a case like that, yes, it was either/or.
This situation might not be, though. pinkfreud, is there any reason (legal or logistics-wise) why your husband can’t bring back humans? If we knew that, maybe it would ease some of the tension on this thread. I’m curious, anyway, as to why that could not be done; I’m guessing it has to do with a legal situation if one of the people were to die on the bus, like someone else said.
Well, in all fairness, it isn’t like they’re stacking the people to the roof like cordwood. the dog could have sat on the boy’s lap, or the lap of one of his parents. The dog wouldn’t have taken away a person’s place.
This was a supply run down, and an animal transport on the way back. Perhaps the seats have been taken out.

The Humane Society ought to give him an award for raising funds to help animals…

Bring people back where? I don’t thin kpinkfreud’s husband is going into the heart of New Orleans. My guess is he is going someplace outside of the city where animals have been brought. Removing the animlas is probably doing a lot more to help than if the animals stayed. I am doubtful that where he is going that the people need to be taken anywere else, but if they can get the abandoned pets out of the way, well that’s probably a good thing.

There are scenes now where people are at the bus having to leave their dogs behind that they brought all the way there hoping to rescue them. If someone were standing there with a van saying “i’ll take care of your dog, just get on the bus” how much better a scene would that be? I wish it could be that way - and Pinkfreud’s husband is working to make it more that way.
And jesus christ the poor kids that are already traumatized and displaced having to leave their pets behind to die? Were none of you ever children with pets? Don’t you remember what that was like when they died? You really want them traumatized that much more? What mental disorder do you have that you can’t comprehend a normal human emotion?
You assholes would consider any kind of comfort and kindness to survivors a waste of resources. That’s right don’t send pillows to the refugees in the Astrodome because people in NO are dying of dehydration. Waste of resources. And just send water for the first two weeks. Since starvation doesn’t kick in until a week after that send food the second week. Pillows the second month. Force them to leave their pets to die if possible. It’s the same logic that’s making the survivors waiting with nothing in the superdome crazy because they figure if they drop water and mre’s on them now and then they’ll be fine. The fact is you have to do it ALL.

There is more than enough amunition there if we run out of ways to describe UB.
For me, the question is whether there are people sitting around in NO right now who are GOING TO DIE if they don’t get transported out, but who are somewhere where some random guy in a van could easily and safely pick them up. If that is the case, and if someone is down there with a van, and does NOT easily and safely pick them up, choosing an animal instead, or choosing not to pick up anyone at all, then I would harshly judge the person who made that choice.
However, there is no reason to think that’s the situation for PinkFreud’s husband. I’m guessing that all the people in NO who are 6 hours away from starving to death, AND who are at the bus station (or whatever other easy-to-reach transport nexxus there is) have already been picked up.
