I’ve got a bathtub/shower drain that I want to unscrew but I just can’t figure out how. It’s the kind where you can pop it up and twist it one direction and it’ll stay up to drain while showering, or twist it back the other way and it’ll collapse and allow the tub to fill. What I can’t figure out is how to unscrew it completely so I can clean it out. I’ve tried some of the tutorials I’m finding online but no matter what I do, it just won’t budge. What am I doing wrong?
Pictures would be nice … how long ago was this installed? … it could be just stuck and the force needed to remove it will just simply break it … try gently tapping it with a hammer and screwdriver … just hard enough to break the gunk … maybe a link to the instructions you’re following and the exact step things fail for you …
Look around the sides of the plug and see if you can find a small screw. That screw probably goes into a grove in the shaft attached to the tub. If you unscrew the screw a bit, the plug should come off the shaft. To prevent accidental loss of the screw, unscrew when the plug is down, not up.
