A friend of mine brought up Kim Richey and the only song I have by her is Every River, covered by Brooks and Dunn. “I’m gonna love you until the stars fall from the sky” etc. Great song.
Always reminds me of Pete Townsend and Ronnie Lane’s “Til the Rivers All Run Dry.”
You could kinda sorta put “River Deep, Mountain High” in this category but in that case the river grows stronger, the mountain in not described but it is implied it will never fall down.
The concrete and the clay beneath my feet
Begins to crumble
But love will never die
Because we’ll see the mountains tumble
Before we say goodbye
My love and I will be In love eternally That’s the way
That’s the way it’s meant to be
Check various lyrics sites (all mostly imperfect) and you’ll see both “seas” and “seeds”. But for reference, I’ll listening to the LP version right now.
“I’ll soon be with you, my love / Give you my dull surprise” ie hardon. “I’ll be with you when the stars start falling” is on-topic for this thread. “I’ll be with you till my seas are dried up” is what I hear in the second verse. “I’ll be with you till my seeds have dried up” is what I hear in the third verse.
A dull surprise doesn’t leave dried seas behind. YMMV.
I think most of these songs take their inspiration from the old Scottish song with lyrics by Robert Burns:
*O my love is like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June;
O my love is like a melody
That’s sweetly played in tune.
As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
Sae deep in love am I;
And I will love thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry.
Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun;
I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.
So fare thee weel, my only love!
O fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my love,
Though it were ten thousand mile.* Sung by Kenneth McKellar
