Until the rivers dry up and the mountains fall down songs

A friend of mine brought up Kim Richey and the only song I have by her is Every River, covered by Brooks and Dunn. “I’m gonna love you until the stars fall from the sky” etc. Great song.

Always reminds me of Pete Townsend and Ronnie Lane’s “Til the Rivers All Run Dry.”

You could kinda sorta put “River Deep, Mountain High” in this category but in that case the river grows stronger, the mountain in not described but it is implied it will never fall down.

“Thank You” by Led Zeppelin.

Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye. It’s got valleys and rivers to boot.

“Longer” by Dan Fogelberg

“Stand By Me,” by Ben E. King

If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
And the mountains should crumble to the sea

of course, forgot that one

Randy Travis, “Forever and Ever, Amen”

Deeper Than the Holler.

The Doors, “Touch Me” (which I can’t believe hasn’t been mentioned in 4 hours, regardless of the myriad server issues)

“As” by Stevie Wonder

I can think of two very different songs:

  1. “Our Love Is Here to Stay” - composed by George Gershwin with lyrics by Ira Gershwin

In time, the Rockies may crumble
Gibraltar may tumble
They’re only made of clay
But our love is here to stay.

Here’s Billie Holiday’s version: Our Love Is Here To Stay - YouTube

  1. “Sunshine of Your Love” - Cream

I’ll stay with you, darling, now
I’ll stay with you 'til my seas are dried up

The concrete and the clay beneath my feet
Begins to crumble
But love will never die
Because we’ll see the mountains tumble
Before we say goodbye
My love and I will be In love eternally That’s the way
That’s the way it’s meant to be

Going back in time:

Till the End of Time, Earl Grant

Till the End of Time, Perry Como

Until the End of Time, Foreigner

End of Time, Beyoncé

Paul Overstreet: Till the Mountains Disappear

Some say “seas”. Some say “seeds” i.e. semen. I always thought the latter.

I was going by what the lyric website had.

In and around the lake…mountains come out of the sky, and they stand there.

Yes was clearly trying to carry on this storied lyrical tradition, but the drugs took it in another direction entirely.

Touch Me by The Doors, of all bands!

I’m gonna love you
Till the heavens stop the rain
I’m gonna love you
Till the stars fall from the sky for you and I

As long as Niagara falls
As long as Gibraltar stands
'Til Hell freezes over
I’ll always be your man

Niagara Falls, Chicago

Check various lyrics sites (all mostly imperfect) and you’ll see both “seas” and “seeds”. But for reference, I’ll listening to the LP version right now.

“I’ll soon be with you, my love / Give you my dull surprise” ie hardon.
“I’ll be with you when the stars start falling” is on-topic for this thread.
“I’ll be with you till my seas are dried up” is what I hear in the second verse.
“I’ll be with you till my seeds have dried up” is what I hear in the third verse.

A dull surprise doesn’t leave dried seas behind. YMMV.

I think most of these songs take their inspiration from the old Scottish song with lyrics by Robert Burns:
*O my love is like a red, red rose
 That’s newly sprung in June;
O my love is like a melody
 That’s sweetly played in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
 Sae deep in love am I;
And I will love thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry.

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
 And the rocks melt wi’ the sun;
I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.

So fare thee weel, my only love!
 O fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my love,
Though it were ten thousand mile.*
Sung by Kenneth McKellar
