Unusual things you saw today, or recently anyway

OK, sometimes I am a little (a lot) slow on the uptake. I was driving on the Kancamagus, which is known for its moose, during a time of year not unusual for moose. STILL I slowed and thought “What is that, a statue in the road people are slowing down and stopping for, probably wondering who left a statue in the road?” :smack: times 1000.

The whole day my friend kept pointing out the moose he was seeing along the road and I was oblivious. To this day the only moose I’ve seen was the “statue” in the road.

There is a nesting pair of golden eagles along the south fork of the Shenandoah. They were there last year and they’re back this year. My fishing guide is a retired park ranger and he said this is the first pair he’d seen on the Shendoah. I also saw a bald eagle on the river take a squirrel out of a tree, that was awesome.

Just a couple minutes ago the RAF display team Red Arrows flew over my house in formation then came around again and landed at the nearby Farnborough airport.

I saw an owl on the way home last night.

That’s not unusual, but this one was sat in the middle of the road, just around a blind bend. It didn’t move, either, even with my car rushing towards it. Fortunately I managed to miss it, but it was close. I’m just imagining the owl nonchalantly standing there as a car went whizzing past just inches away.

When I looked in the mirror, it was still standing in the road, looking back at my car. It hadn’t bothered to move an inch.

That owl was either awesomely cool or pretty dumb. I’m not sure which. I was half expecting to see owl puree on the road when I went back round this morning, but it was all clear.

How could you tell where the owl was going?

A few days ago, I saw a car that–except for the windows–looked like it had been completely spray painted with flat black paint. The wheel covers and tires, too.

It had on one of these.

He was wearing a homing pigeon costume.
