Unwanted dialog box at startup

Recently, whenever i start my computer, before Windows ME opens fully, i get a dialog box asking me to logon to networking. The box contains my name, and a space for a password. All i have to do is hit ‘enter’ or OK and the box dissappears and the computer finishes starting up, but it’s a bit annoying. The most confusing thing is that this started happening without me doing anything to change my system - at least as far as i know. Any advice?

Also, i have similar problem with my internet connection (i’m with Verizon DSL). Whenever i disconnect from the internet lately, my computer will almost immediately start up the connection process agian, without any input from me. What’s going on here?

Control Panel -> Network ->Primary Network Logon -. Windows Logon

Control Panel -> Network ->Primary Network Logon -. Windows Logon

Thanks, dirty1. This option is currently set to “Client for Microsoft Netowrks.” Will changing this to “Windows Logon” change anything else?

BTW, i’m making my first trip to Chicago in a couple of weeks, and really looking forward to it.

Your welcome:)

AFAIK it just stops the logon box at bootup. If you used some other microsoft services my guess is you that would have to login separately at at that time. IIRC this doesn’t work on all computers and I don’t remember why.

Regarding your other question, if you have internet applications running that access the internet, they could be triggering your computer to logon to the 'net again. You probably have a setting somewhere in your internet connection that tells windows to logon automatically, but I haven’t used 98/ME in a while and can’t think of that offhand.

Oh btw this is a good time to come to Chicago if you can take the heat/humidity. Lots o’ stuff to do. I love this city
