Unwanted Internet Explorer

I use Netscape and have a question about ‘gif’ picture files that I’ve downloaded and saved. Why, when I try to open my saved ‘gif’ files, does Internet Explorer start? How can I change this?

push
Start key/Settings/Folder options/File types
Scroll down to gif

The permanent fix is to change IE options so it won’t set itself to the default, then reinstall Netscape, choosing that it make itself the default.

Thanks. It may not be worth the trouble to change just now, but at least now I’ll know how to when I’m ready (and slightly more confident - I 'm afraid I’ll lose stuff if/when I reinstall Netscape).

Not only does God play dice, he cheats!

Netscape says to do this to make Navigator the default browser.

This is less drastic than rerunning setup for netscape, IMHO.

The program you have selected to open ANY thing displays it’s icon with the file when you see the file on the desktop. That way you know what program is going to launch

BLESS YOU Opus!! I had upgraded AOL, and ended up with IE instead of Netscape. Even though I’d gone to the Netscape help desk, the directions they’d given me didn’t fix the problem. The ones you referred me to did. Thank you!!!
