Nope, I have no plans. My 2 BFFs are not going out or having company. Not visiting with my sister because we are both too lazy to drive. I’ll hang around the house. Maybe go to the gym.
WOOHOO!! I got to walk today! And I got the kitchen tidied! Go me!!!
Morning all. Debating what to do this morning, need to do some shopping and banking but the question is in what order. Doesn’t really matter as the banks don’t open until 9am.
With youth soccer 4 days a week I don’t go much of anywhere Labor day, may move the soccer practice I’ve scheduled to Wednesday for it (checking with the parents).
OK, need to clean up and rescue the paper from outside. All y’all have a good Firday.
Afternoon, mumpers! Been a good day so far, I went to the gym for a 7am session and got two PBs which made me happy. Then home for a quick shower, and out to take Shadow to the vet for his second round of vaccinations. He was apparently very well-behaved while he was with the vet, but he dislikes both carrier and car so I came home with a small bag containing the towel and liner he’d had a poo on. I usually put newspaper in the carrier but didn’t have time this morning due to running late and having to find him after he heard me get the carrier out and then made a run for it.
So far I’ve not done a huge amount of actual irk, even though this is an irk day. There’s the rest of the afternoon, and of course the inevitable Friday Afternoon Problem…
We have an accordion-style screen on the front door, with a baby gate to keep the cats from getting out the bottom. Yesterday Mrs. L.A. opened the door for ventilation. Before I got home, Goo was chasing something, or saw a bird or squirrel outside, and made a leap. She fell between the baby gate and the screen door (about an inch gap) and took off running outside. Mrs. L.A. went out to retrieve her. She had to come back in to put shoes on. Goo was under the MG. Mrs. L.A. heard a commotion and some shocking noises. She coaxed Goo out and expected her to follow her, but she didn’t. Goo went decided she’d go under the deck to check it out. Eventually, Mrs. L.A. got her back inside.
Goo has never shown an inclination to go outside. Now Mrs. L.A. is keeping the front door shut until Goo ‘forgets’ she can get out that way.
nellie, this year there will be minimal festivities, but SIL will be over tomorrow afternoon and I’m going to a socially distanced backyard concert that a musician friend is performing Sunday evening. As a kid, there was always the union picnic and when I was a union member myself, there was always a union picnic involved as well.
Mooooooooom, I liken people who only boat on Memorial Day, Independence Day or Labor Day to Christmas and Easter Catholics.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Once that’s done, I’ll pick up sticks in the yard and cut some herbs for drying. I need to do a Marketplace pick up in the 'Boro this afternoon, so I’ll couple that with buying groceries. A trip to the dog park will happen early in the evening.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Nope. Just staying home like I’ve been doing every single day.
Good news: when I went to stock the pantry this morning, there were already a good number of cans and stuff in there. I was hoping that my activity would serve to “prime the pump” and others would step up. I added my haul and now the box is packed with soup, beans, tuna, chicken, chili-- good stuff, which won’t be sogged out if it rains. Someone left some toothbrushs and toothpaste. Also a package of fresh corn tortillas and one large cookie wrapped in plastic. There have been a lot of dried beans and peas in plastic bags left. I bought a wire undershelf basket from amazon to get those bags off the top of the box where I’ve found rat poop.
Also, I don’t want those sitting out directly in the rain. If we ever get any rain.
I’m going to come only twice a week now instead of three times since others are participating. This makes me very happy.
How did you like the Neverending Story? Atreyu was my biggest crush way back in the day. I watched Neverending Story with my kids a few years back and they loved it. Interestingly enough they seem to love some of the 80s movies I used to watch, though they tend to start a little slow for the younger set’s taste.
I’m so excited today is Friday. Well, excited is a little too effusive - relieved is better. Looking forward to sleeping is far more accurate. Coffee has been had, teeth have been brushed and work has been kind of done until I hear back from some people who need to give me more information before I can do anything else. Until then I’m going to allow some amount of goofing around and trolling through FB.
I’ve rarely blocked anyone on FB, but I’m going to block one of my friends who keeps trying to sell me stuff through a multi-level marketing company. She looks amazing and clearly is way more positive than she used to be. But, recipes for a water bar? I’m sure it’s refreshing, but the day I purchase a book with recipes for water will be a sad day indeed. Also, question…if part of the recipe involves putting green tea in my water, does that mean it’s watery tea, or tea-y water?
Roxy and I went to a different park today - one that’s a bit closer to home. Over the course of our time there, three little boys showed up with their assorted parents, so she had someone to run around with. And amazingly, when I told her it was time to go home, she didn’t fuss a lot. She’s since been fed and put down for a nap, and I started a load of diapers, since I’m nice, dammit. Daughter has enough to deal with and I’ve got a semi-idle afternoon, so I can stuff the liners for her.
Not sure what supper will be, or where it will be, or who it will be - as in will Roxy still be here or not? I’ll work that out with Daughter when she gets off work. Meanwhile, some chillage…
We’re not going anywhere this weekend, and not having anyone over either.
PWAISDN has been decently busy with clients happy to be able to have their hair done inside again, and I’m still recovering from the surprise diverticulitis. More accurately, recovering from its treatment. One of the antibiotics was actively trying to kill me, so it’s on the no-fly list for me now.
Happy Firday!
It’s a nice day outside, so where is the fence guy?
He should be around sometime I guess.
This whole weekend is supposed to be nice.
I’m not going anywhere or doing anything for Labor Day. But then, I almost never do.
Not many at the dog park this morning. I found out that Olive went to her new home last night. We will miss her, she was really starting to show her personality.
Not much going on today. Just the usual.
Good morning! I’m about to head out for a walk before the mists burn off completely. I have Instacart orders arriving this afternoon. Yay! It’s kind of like a Christmas where all you get is undies and socks, but hey, it’s something.
How did I get o this point? A few years ago I was fit and trim and happily denying vision and lupus issues while I worked a job I loved and hiked my mountain whenever I could. But I know I have to make the best I can out of my situation, and every day I find small joys and delights. When I die, I don’t want people saying, “Poor Nellie”; I want them to say, “That Nellie–such a good time!” I mean, I have to live up to all that graffiti on all those restroom walls, right?
Thel, your little pantry has always made me smile. Today it made me cheer. Look what you started! You’re not only connecting with people you’ll never know, you’re connecting with other people who are now connecting with those hungry people. And the hungry people will share with other hungry people. Incredible.
Swampy, I watched a video yesterday where I guy was making banana pudding. He layered diced bananas in caramelized sugar with vanilla pudding and crushed vanilla wafers in a martini glass and put a dollop of whipped cream on each. I’m no southerner, but that looked like sacrilege to me.
I enjoy reading about others’ plans or lack thereof. Thanks for sharing.
Now off to save the world from fire spiders!
In my part of the world (Iowa and Nebraska) drunk and loud was usually involved also. Don’t enjoy any of that, didn’t when I was young, even when my friends were partying hearty. Wild and enthusiastic fun together yes, stupid drunk and loud no. PTSD is no fun at all and takes no prisoners. Well, that’s about enough grim for the day.
N.O.T
I need someone to tell me what these mean. Obviously food/meal related and I think one has something to do with potatoes. I need a Mumper PM buddy I can ask to ‘splain stuff to me. Nicknames and what dang continent and time zone folks are in too.
No promise I’ll remember it the first time, but I’ll give it my college best. I would write it down but I’d probably forget I had or I’d not remember where I put the little piece of paper. Perhaps I need a Mumper atlas. I dunno. I’m late to this party (but I loovve it) and I’ll be the last to leave.
Sounds lovely and complementary. My house (c.1880 shiplap siding) is pale blue and soft gray with subdued, grayed down olive and deep blue accents. My door is unrepentant cranberry. This is what happens to you when your former SO is an architectural historian and you have to get the Historic Commission to sign off on whatever you want to do to the outside of your house. Did I mention he is the venerated leader of that Commission? Want he says goes when it comes to buildings in this county. He was very helpful about it all. My house is on historic walking tours but none of ‘em are ever coming inside. Of course Mumpers will be invited in when you show up. Most of the trim needs sprucing up but that is a task to wrestle with next spring.
You go girl! This is my whole goal for the day. We shall see. My standards are pretty minimal so I should be ok.
Not surprised he was well-behaved with you as his mom. The stories we could all tell about trips to the vet…probably should be a whole thread onto itself.
My kitties have never forgotten a rascally thing they’ve ever done and then the old salts pass it along to the new ones when they come aboard. Mini blind climbing and front door escapes are never done, neither is sneaking under the covers and waking up innocent human sleepers by licking them behind the knees in the middle of the night. Ripping open the the brand new $40 bag of Science diet cat food and scattering it everywhere is a team sport here. That said bag is standing a foot away from bowls stuffed to overflowing with the very same kibble matters not at all.
I love the pantry stories. What a warm, welcoming village you’ve created in your neighborhood! It’s such a heartwarming way to stay connected in these times. I’m a big fan of Little Libraries for this reason and that’s where my done-with books go. The hard part is not taking a book out when I drop books off. I figure I’m ok if I leave more books than I take.
I think my kids have gotten me into more movies than the other way around, at least in recent years. Harry Potter, Star Wars, all the super hero Marvel and DC comics genre. I never ever thought I would be into sci fi but thanks to my two boys I am now. Mad Max Fury Road is my favorite there. My daughter is a Disney/Pixar classics fan so I’m enjoying or re-enjoying those. Maleficent is my favorite here plus Lion King, which my grandgirl loves.
Morning all. Time to get my 2nd☕️mug of caffeine☕️in before the noon bell tolls.
BBBOO*
Dodging the Mary Kay, Scentsy and Tupperware parties and pressure has become a part time pastime for me, albeit not one of choice. If it’s a school fundraiser for a friend’s child I will indulge in popcorn or cookie dough. Girl Scout cookies are exempted-I will follow those anywhere:cookie:
Boo part II.
Whoa, BBB! You have totally mastered The Art of the Multiquote! WTG!
I forgot about people putting flags out on labor day. We’ve got a flag, but we’ve only got 2/3 of a flagpole. I’ll have to see if I can make something, or stop by the hardware store. Humph!
A grey door, Mom? I am deflated. I, for one, wanted to see pics of a red door.
That made me laugh.
I have a friend whose wife wanted to name their son Atreyu. He asked me what I thought. People should never ask me questions like that. They named him Skylar.
One of my friends asked if I’d be going to the park this afternoon. I wasn’t going to but now I will.
The doctor’s office called to remind me of my visit next week. I really need to change doctors. I don’t want or need to talk to her every 8 weeks. She will not go back into her office until there is a covid vaccine. This is pointless. She wants me to take my BP and tell her my weight. I can tell her whatever I want. I can do this shit myself, so why do I need her?
To write a script for my thyroid pills.
I need to find another doctor.
FlyBoy, cats never unlearn what they have already learned.
BooFae, my cat gets the shits every time I take him somewhere.
Grey door is good FCM
My door and shutters are a reddish color. My house is brick but is painted brown, so they match. I’ve been wanting to paint the door and shutters blue. I don’t know how that will work with the shared shutter between me and the neighbor, unless she wants her door and shutters painted blue too.
My neighbor on the other side told me my house is considered one of the prettiest in the neighborhood. Maybe not so much if I paint the door and shutters blue.
I suppose I should be doing something more important than playing on the computer.
Here ya go!!
Daughter and SIL are at their house doing stuff. They asked me to feed Roxy supper and they’ll let me know if they’ll pick her up or if I need to take her there. Which means I need to figure out supper.
I’ve folded and stowed the clean diapers. FCD is napping. Roxy is watching some toddler-music video. I should bathe her. We shall see.
I have more luck by allowing the escape on a miserably rainy day, or when it’s snowing.
I understand how you feel. Don’t overdo. I think you’re awesome.
NOS - Not Our Sunny
NOT - Not Our Taters (another MMPer)
Sari good luck with dr hunt.
Mooomm grey? You wound me. I am wounded.
gotti congrats on indoor hair dressing.
Schnitzel was not et last night - perhaps tonight. 109 degrees American in the next few days. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Evening all!
One nice thing about being back at irk- Firday evenings are exciting again. I get to sleep in tomorrow! I can do fun stuff, or nothing, as I choose! I know I’ve been doing nothing for months, but it feels different now I’m doing things the rest of the week, y’know.
I have noticed that, so far at least, aside from that horrible Wednesday, the drive to and from irk is a lot quieter’n last year. Last year Firdays were chaos, and I had to leave early- this morning I left late and still got there with 15 minutes to spare. I hope it stays like that, with people irking from home at least some days.
BTW Boo, me 'n Boofae are on the tea drinking side of the pond, if that helps.
