According to my power company report, I used $8 less energy than last year. When means 2 washes and 2 drys with the new(ish) washer and dryer used slightly less energy than 3 washes with the 2001 vintage washer/non functional dryer combo unit.
Also cleaning with the chopped up towel means I use 90% fewer paper towels in a week, which is good considering the ongoing shortages. I should market them, I just need a catching product name. Something like “reusable anti grime sheets”. R.A.G.S. for short.
Bladders have no respect for one’s sleep cycle. Woke an hour ago. More than ready to fall back to sleep. I only grabbed my tablet because I needed to know the difference between an intern and a resident. Now I know. But I’m still awake.
Up for reals now. More or less. Originally woke just before 2, then fell back to sleep around 3. Re-woke at 4 and couldn’t fall asleep again, so I played with my tablet till 5:45. Tended to the critters, woke FCD at 6, and I’m just finishing my toast.
The biggie for today is picking up Roxy after school. I also need to go to Food Lion for a few things. We’re going to pre-cook and take some meals with us to FL, and I need to start planning for that. Plus I need to empty my car of all the stuff we brought home yesterday. So I guess I’ll keep occupied. I may even be motivated enough to use the new pressure washer on the deck that I need to paint. We’ll see how the day goes.
shoe - I saw your other post - hope when you re-awake, you feel better. That had to have been scary!
Then there’s ZIva. We hardly saw her last night, and I thought she’d hidden under our bed, since I usually see her behind the couch when I head back to sleep. And when she’s trapped in our room, she’ll wake me by banging against the door to be let out, but that never happened. When I came down the hall this morning, she wasn’t in her usual place waiting for me, and I suddenly had visions of a kitteh corpse under the bed. But when I let Higgs out, both Ziva and Taz came strolling into the kitchen looking for their morning treats. So who knows what she was up to or where she hid…idiot feline!
FCD has therapy this morning. I’m going to give him the name of a pain management specialist and hope he uses it. He’s pretty sure the worst of his pain is neurological, related to his most recent back surgery, and I agree. So I’ll give him a provider’s name from our insurance company’s list and see how it goes.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 68 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 86 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted for later today. We shall see. We did get some rain startin’ late yestiddy afternoon and it appears some overnight. I get to call a plumber this mornin’ about a urinal that is runnin’ continously over to the church house. The joys of a church janitor Junior Warden never end. I would like to get them to come durin’ the mornin’ before one p.m. cause then I could call the Parish Administrator and ask her to let them in. However, if it’s afternoon then I shall be there. Other than that, the day holds sloth and general laziness. Boxed noodle cake (RoxStar has decreed it so we must say noodle cake), don’t judge!, sallit, and cheesey garlic bread shall comprise sup.
shoe I too saw your post in the old MMP. YIKES! Glad you’re feelin’ better and here’s hopin’ you feel better when you wake up again.
doggio Jawja Power loves to send me details about electricity usage complete with graphs and charts that show highs and lows and also comparisons on usage month by month for the past and current year. I look at it all, say “OK’”, and toss it.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. I suppose I should also clean up and be presentable in case I must needs go tend to runny urinal issues. Such bother!
I get such info, but on line, so no paper to toss. I like seeing how our usage varies, but I don’t particularly care how I compare to my neighbors, since we all have different size houses, different family sizes, and different lifestyles. That’s pretty much useless.
FCD has gone to be therapied. I’m about to hop in the shower and ready myself for the day. Then let the adventure begin!!
Yikes, shoe, hope you’re feeling better. But don’t go back to eating nothing, either; all things in moderation.
Don’t think I ever got details about my power usage like doggio and swampy, but the water department sends me annual reports detailing exactly what they find in my water down to the parts per million…I guess that is supposed to give me confidence since all the dozens of items are at or below standards…or maybe they are in cahoots with the bottled water companies and are trying to help their sales…
And that’s about as much musing as I can do a 7am. Thew Great October Shopping is planned for today, have the list prepared, just need to go do it. Rain is due tomorrow again after a rainy Sunday, so probably will cancel soccer practice and let the kids enjoy Fall Break.
Glad Ziva is still good, FCM, and still acting like a cat ought to…
I briefly considered calling out sick today, but in the end decided that since I was awake anyway, best to shower and get on with the day. I just wanted a mental health day, but I think I’ll use that on another day.
My power company shows past usage as compared to current usage and I also briefly glance at it and then ignore it. I pay my bill online. I did not however, that my recent bill was $110.00 dollars and I never have a bill that high for this time of year. Something went wonky, and I think it’s because the cost of natural gas has gone up something like 185 percent. Yest, 185 percent. that’s ridiculous. I have a gas furnace and gas dryer. I haven’t turned on the heat yet, but the husband turned on the gas fireplace a few times, so that may have had something to do with it. I haven’t done more laundry than usual, though. I don’t have a gas stove, it’s electric. Anyway, I’m somewhat concerned as to what the winter bills will look like.
I don’t mind the tear-a-size paper towels, but I’m not passionate about them one way or the other.
It’s cloudy and 51 degrees with an expected high of 61.
That’s it; not much else to report in this little corner of the PNW.
I’ve emptied my car of the assorted stuff. The bins of baby clothes and toys are in the closet in the kids’ room. The empty bins are in the garage. I pulled out the pressure washer and assembled it with minimal cussing. Now I’m just waiting for the thrift store to open so I can drop off the stuff my daughter got rid of, plus I’ll wander thru, just to see what’s there. Then I’ll run into Food Lion.
I’m trying to convince my family that for our goofy gift exchange, we shop at thrift stores, the only rule being whatever you buy has to fit in the smallest of our cars. That way, we’re supporting whatever charity runs the thrift store, and we can re-donate whatever we get with a clear conscience. The whole point of this exchange is to have fun and steal good stuff from other people. You know, in the spirit of the Christmas season!
It feels like it wants to rain - supposedly, it’ll move into our area after lunch, then stop and restart tonight. We shall see.
… including moderation!
(Oscar Wilde reference, for the uncultured heathen barbarians out there.)
I feel utterly, 100% fine this morning. Still dunno what the hell went haywire last night, but at least it’s not an ongoing thing.
Will fix a bowl of cereal shortly, since { sniff } yup, milk is still fine.
Same here. We had a soggy night, but it let up now … at least enough for the cats to go out and sniff disdainfully at the wet grass.
The “miscellaneous stuff” equivalent of those Take-a-Penny/Leave-a-Penny trays!
I’ve “lost” cats in nearly-empty rooms with the door shut. Dunno how they do it, although the story of the damn-near-invisible Cheshire cat comes to mind.
In each case, once I gave up and stopped calling/looking for it … said cat would casually stroll over from - I swear - the dead center of the room, as if out of thin air.
Every single time with an attitude of, “What? WHAT?!? Why you freakin’ out, silly hoomin? I’m right here, sheesh.”
Wet 66 degrees this morning. Was drizzling when I went to the park, then stopped. Supposed to be rain on and off all day. The park people finally replaced the bulbs in the pavilion, so there was light. TBH, I’d rather sit in the dark. I feel like a sitting duck when the lights are on.
I’m surprised that four other people showed up. None of the dogs were much interested in playing though. Ripple has been a total brat since we got home, will not leave the cat alone.
I needed to look over my subscribe and save order. I had two 30 roll cases delivered Saturday. Yesterday we got a case of 80 rolls. I think we’re good.
I don’t go through a lot of paper towels; a roll usually lasts me a month. I bought a case of 40 rolls last year and we have barely made a dent in them.
I buy most things in bulk; we have the room to store them and it’s a lot cheaper that way.
I buy paper plates 1200 at a time and that lasts about a year and a half.
Although I occasionally screw up and we end up with 140 rolls of tp, 36 boxes of tissues, 24 bars of soap, and 4 boxes of trash bags.
The only thing I look at on my utility bills is the balance due.
My gas bill is paperless, budget billing, and taken out automatically.
My electric and water bills come from the city. I don’t know if paperless is an option, I think budget billing may be an option for the electric bill. I usually pay them online before I even get the paper bills.
Today I need to put away all the laundry from this weekend. It’s subscribe and save delivery day. I have one more load to wash, but it’s nothing I need right away. I may get to it today, or not. Also, bill paying day. And of course, irk, there is always irk.
Mornin all! Made it to the shop, now doing the standard delay start work farting around on the intertubes. I need to consult a walk-in cooler person to figure out how to mount a shelf on the side of one. What are the implications to drilling through the side of a cooler?
Then it’s on to the rest of the week’s projects. I really want to get these drawers finished for the museum client. I built with too tight tolerances, need to go back and make some adjustments. Friggin laminate, grumble, grumble.
I’m dealing with a little baggage - we had one cat who didn’t come out - found him dead under our bed. And another who was eventually found lying on the basement floor with his back end pretty much paralyzed. I rushed her to the vet, but they said apparently she’d had a clot block all the blood to the back of her body and her legs had been deprived of blood for too long. Had to have the poor girl put down. So I’m maybe a tad more paranoid than I should be when I can’t find a cat.
The end is nigh. Yesterday we did our last tomato harvest and pulled out the plants. I’m not looking forward to the cardboard versions of winter.
The wife has decided to start taking walks again, which I’m happy about. She’s been very paranoid about covid and I was getting worried about possible health issues from lack of exercise.
The cat is crouched on the rug, trying to stare me into complying with her wishes for me to fill her food dish. Okay fine, off I go.
I will admit - I fast-skimmed the earlier part of your post, then mis-read “urinal” as “urinary,” and thought, “Damn, you dress up for those doctor appointments? I’d wear sweatpants. Max.”
And they’d be lucky I was so dressed up!
Holy . Uh, no offense or nuthin’ but if the zombie apocalypse comes, I’m heading to your place.
I’ll bring supplies! How do you feel about three half-killed boxes of sugary kid’s cereal?
I’m so sorry about your, ah, previous experiences.
I get paranoid, too, when they’re not in eyesight and don’t show up when called.
This is a rough neighborhood (could totally see “target practice” or unleashed dogs being a serious threat) plus the roads are straight and seem to entice idjits roaring through at ridiculous speeds.
Back from erranding. First, is anyone else having problems accessing FB? I keep getting “Server Not Found”
I got a onesie that says Awesome Little Dude for the future baby, plus a baking pan shaped like a giant gingerbread man for Roxy. And I got groceries. Now I’m eating a bowl of soup. Yep, excitement reigns!
There seems to be a worldwide overload with FB/WhatsApp /Insta.
In this neck of the woods, today we commemorate the city’s siege and liberation from the Spaniards in 1574. Which means a huge fairground and parades all weekend. And herring and bread and hutspot (carrots, onions and taters mashed together). Usually the town ends up totally drunk😁. We’ve spent an hour or so at the fairground, with cotton candy and sickening rides. Kind of a yearly duty, but fun nonetheless. Happy Moanday!
