We’ve decided to give our daughter and SIL an early Christmas present - we’re having an electrician figure out the crazy wiring in their house. Like the switch they can’t figure out, and the outlets that still have power to them even when the switch is off, and the porch light that doesn’t have a switch, and the lack of a ceiling light in the living room. We’ll give them a fan for the LR and replace the fan in Roxy’s room.
Anyway, the electrician is meeting us at their house this afternoon to give us an estimate. Ho ho ho…
Yeah. But he’s the guy who replaced the circuit box in our house and did a few other little things we needed done. He’s good and he’s honest. You don’t get that for cheap.
I accepted a friend request, and then came here. I think I broke it. (probably just a strange coincidence)
It’s no longer morning here, it’s actually getting towards settling down time.
Made a peach cake to use up some canned peaches. Don’t know why I bought them, because they tend to be overly sweet and/or not very tasty. Added some blueberries to add some color and additional flavor.
Took stuff to the recycling center to get rid of cardboard and old electronics. Then went to Ikea, since we needed to make sure we have some cardboard in the house.
I buy paper towels by the 8 pack, and they go on the shelf with the 24 pack of TP. I also have a stack of white-ish bar towels which are used for much of the cleaning.
Electric meter is read twice a year, and we pay quarterly. There’s some numbers, somewhere, but it means signing up for yet another account, with another password, etc. Last week I signed up for an account for our insurance and also for health insurance. Oddly enough, for the insurance I could just reference a policy number and they let me sign up for the account. For the health insurance they sent me an envelope with a code, similar to what we did when we first signed up for e-banking.
And glad the wife is out wandering again, Chefguy!
The visit with Dad was good - he’s on new medication, which helps a lot with some of his agitation and paranoia. He seems more relaxed now and his friends and family are making a really large concerted effort to visit him frequently, which is amazing.
Kid #1 is getting braces today; kid #2 is getting braces tomorrow. I’m bracing for (financial) impact. Oh, and hoping my kids’ mouths don’t ache too much, too.
Late start at school today, so I got to sleep in a bit. Nothing like lazing in bed with cats piled on top of you. Getting interesting reactions from my seniors when they were informed that, per Newsome’s executive order Friday, they will have to be duly vaccinated by January or else they won’t be allowed to attend school. Most of the kids just nodded and smiled, but there are a few each period so far who have shaken their heads in disapproval. Oh, well. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
As for Facebook - the prompt for their in-class essay today is “Resolved: On balance, social media is more detrimental than beneficial.” Defend and elucidate. I think they know my feelings, as the title on the whiteboard reads “Zuckerburg is the AntiChrist.”
Had a nice day looking at pickled bugs. They look even weirder under a microscope- I have pictures, if you’d like?
FB is down for me here in the You Kay as well- which is very annoying. I normally wouldn’t care, but I was just going to look up my brother’s GF’s address, which he’d messaged me on there. I have a box of live plants to send her that I’d just finished packing up; it better come back up soon, as I need to post these in the morning.
Really tired, turns out I’m not used to trying to use my brain all day.
I found it. Hello everyone. I did not drop off the Earth. I did retire!!!11!!! Can not be happier about that. 2nd week and I am doing spring cleaning. Getting rid of stuff. How does one collect so much stuff? I have a bag of sheets and rags to go to the dog pound I can’t even lift. Everywhere I look that spot needs attention. But, there ain’t a soul telling me what to do for the first time in my life. Weird.
Hope everyone is well and maybe I can be a better Mumper (;I never had the Mumps). I now have time. Butters.
When hubby and I were living in married student housing, we got a pair of kittens at the pound. They were very small and very scared. We ended up “losing” them in the house. We finally found them squeezed between the wall and the dresser. Poor little things.
Butters!!! So glad you found us! Yay for retirement!
I have returned from my journey. My house is intact. The animals all seem well. My smoke alarm battery went out at 12:30. We do have a mystery package notice from the porch. I’ve been on hold for an hour, so I’m not sure we’re ever getting whatever it was.
I seem to be stuck in some sort of Purgatory. The nuns made it sound like a mini-hell, with fire and brimstone, but turns out it’s just me and the itch. I STILL haven’t heard back from the allergy clinic about an appointment a week after the referral, so I was all set to call this a.m. However, I went to their website first, and there’s a big notice on there saying they’re SEVERELY short-staffed and there are very long wait times for call-backs. Do NOT call more than once! They’ll get to you eventually, so BE AVAILABLE when they do.
I have no idea what to do now.
flyboy, here’s to your dad. I still get sad on my parents’ birthdays, so I get it. I hope your day has some happy surprises in it.
shoe, glad your stomach has stopped ejecting everything.
At least I’m not going to run out of them any time soon…
I have an appointment tomorrow morning for a CT scan of my heart (paranoid cardiologist: my exercise stress test results were fine, but she didn’t like how quickly I ran out of breath). The appointment starts at 8:30 but I have to get there at 7:30, and today I got a voicemail saying it could take 2-4 hours (it will take longer if I need medication to slow my heart rate for the imaging)! To be safe, I told my boss that I might not get home/be online until around 1pm.
After nearly four months, I think I’m officially tired of all of these appointments and tests. The “final exam” will be an endoscopy in two weeks…surgery is four weeks from today!
In case this is any consolation in the future: before I started taking Nexium for my acid reflux, I would sometimes wake up choking on vomit. It isn’t pleasant, but as long as you aren’t super drunk or high (etc.) your body won’t let you die if you throw up in your sleep.
Sorry if you mentioned this way back when the itching started and I’ve forgotten, but: could a trip to urgent care be possible/helpful?
I’d go if I thought they could do something my GP and the dermatologist haven’t already tried. As long as I take big doses of antihistamines often, the itching is mild, but I’m kind of strung out all the time, which I don’t like, and I’m tired of itching at all.
It’s so ironic. I moved here from Nowhere, Wyoming, expecting I’d be closer to medical care–most specialists were 100+ miles away in WY. Instead, it’s harder to get in to see someone here. When I had cancer, it was two months from discovering the lump to surgery. A few months later, a friend in my old WY town got the exact same kind of cancer, and it took two weeks, including getting all the tests I had.
Butters!! Welcome to the wonderful world of sloth, nappage, and indolence, otherwise known as retirement (at least the way swampy and I do it…). Glad things are coming together and your presence here is always welcome.
nellie, hope the itching gets treated soon…hanging onto the phone is no great pleasure.
Haven’t tried Facebook lately, but my ISP e-mail was down, so instead of calling I tried messaging with a customer rep–still had to wait 15 minutes, but they were helpful and pleasant and I have my e-mail back, so they were also successful.
Shopping has been completed and I cancelled soccer practice due to the rain we’ve had, so nothing much planned for the evening. All y’all take care.
