Upcoming TV season

So, the new TV season will soon be upon us, and I’m trying to decide what shows to at least give a shot to.

There are three that I’m definitely interested in:
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (Aaron Sorkin is the man)
30 Rock (Tina Fey is the woman)
and
Heroes (haven’t heard any buzz, but I love the premise)
What new shows are people excited about?

Actually, there are a lot of shows I’m interested in this year. Usually there’s only a couple. Ones I’m sure to check out are:

**Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip

Heroes**

and

The Nine

My only problem is that the littlest Trion has reached an age where to go to sleep process has officially reaced “rigamarole” status ( ). I have to hope she finally goes down before the shows come on. I could set the VCS each and every night, but without benefit of Tivo, that becomes a pain.

I was at a test screening for a new comedy, “The Class.” The premise is that a guy in his late-20s is proposing to his girlfriend, whom he met 20 years earlier in the third grade. In celebration of the event he gets together everyone he can find from their third grade class and throws a big party. Everyone starts to catch up and find out what’s happened to these peoplethey haven’t seen since they were kids.

I thought it was pretty weak (seemed to be trying too hard to hit that “Friends” vibe, which isn’t surprising since I found out later it’s by one of the same producers), and I gave it a bad review. To my surprise, it looks like it’s already been greenlighted – apparently there are commercials already running for it.

I keep thinking that maybe it’ll be a huge hit and years from now when it’s being inducted into the TV Comedy Hall of Fame they’ll dig up some of the bad reviews from the test screening and laugh that I could have been so wrong in my review. :frowning:

Do we know when the various networks are starting their seasons? I couldn’t find any dates on their websites.

Vanished started right after Prison Break. And was really weak.

The Nine I heard is good and is going for a LOST-type vibe without the WTF quotient.

Heroes sounds good. I hope that it is.

30 Rock is already on shaky ground with NBC so unless the numbers are decent it will probably get cut before November.

Ugly Betty is an adaptation of a spainish language show about an unattractive girl who works for a fashion mag. And I actually applaud them for casting a young actress who isn’t really that attractive.

Uh, would that be this hag here? :dubious:

I don’t get this. The WTF quotient is easily the best thing about Lost.

…uhh yeah… That girl is not the least bit attractive to me. The picture is nice though. I applaud the photographer as much as the people who did the casting for the show.

I’m a newly converted LOST fan, so when I heard about Six Degrees, I got pretty excited.

Now that Trion has mentioned The Nine, I went to the official site and did a double take. It might be just me, but it sounds way too similar to Six Degrees. And vice versa.

Well, nothing wrong with checking out both. It’ll be interesting to see which one lasts longer.

Hmmm… I guess they sound similar.

A drama about how everyone is connected to everyone and a drama about survivors of hostage stand off and how what happened there affects them afterwards… seem pretty different.

Ooh, I hadn’t heard of Ugly Betty, but I’ll tune in just because I adore America Ferrera. She’s a great young actress. And not the least bit ugly, IMO.

I don’t know about new shows, but I am crushed that Grey’s Anatomy will be up against The Office on Thursday nights. :frowning: I have a satellite dish and I don’t think I can record one while watching another.

Cearly the Office is the winner in that match up.

Isn’t The Office on at 8:30 and Grey’s at 9? Or am I reading the grid wrong?

If you have a DVR, check the manual.

If you’re reading the grid wrong, jsgoddess, then so am I, because it does look like The Office is on from 8:30 to 9:00 pm, while Grays Anatomy starts at 9:00 pm.

Talk about warped standards. Have you ever seen a single second of British television?

The show I’m most looking forward to is Shark, in which James Woods plays a lawyer. James Woods is one of those guys that I’d watch even if he just stood there reading the phone book (although I hope he’ll have better dialogue than that).

Oh, I hope you’re right! I had been led to believe it was just the premiere that was on at 8:30, from the ad here: Watch The Office Streaming | Peacock

They also mentioned that er will feature no repeats this year. That can’t mean all new shows every week??; maybe filling in off weeks with any junk they can come up with…
