Fall TV roundup--hits and misses

I think now that all of the fall programming has debuted, and some shows are in trouble already.

What did you try? What did you keep?

Major disappointments? Major surprises?

Which shows will last?

What’s your impression of the season as a whole?

Shows I’m sticking with:

Heroes, Smith, Ugly Betty

Shows on the cusp (they better improve fast):

Studio 60

Not bad, but nothing I’m going to follow:

Help Me Help You, Men in Trees, Shark

Still Waiting (hasn’t premiered yet):

30 Rock

Shows I’m sticking with:

Studio 60, possibly Shark

Shows I’m not sticking with:

Vanished, Heroes

Shows I haven’t managed to watch but want to:

Ugly Betty, Smith

Shows I didn’t manage to watch but meant to which have already been cancelled:

Justice

Shows I’m avoiding on general principles:

6 Degrees, Brothers and Sisters, Men in Trees, Jericho

Still watching, but not yet committed to: Studio 60

Checked out, but off the list already: Men in Trees

Caught without planning to, and like enought to watch regularly: the Ted Danson sitcom, whatever that’s called.

Caught without planning to, and would watch again if nothing else were on, but don’t plan to make a habit of: Class.

We watched most of the premieres, anything that appeared remotely “us.” I forgot “30 Rock” still hasn’t premiered.
I really liked:

Ugly Betty, The Nine, Studio 60
Okay for now:

Heroes
Only watching because my husband is:

Jericho
Would have watched if husband were enthusiastic:

Six Degrees, The Class
Didn’t like:

Vanished, Kidnapped, Friday Night Lights, Runaway, Smith

I didn’t know Justice was cancelled. I know that “Kidnapped” is virtually cancelled–it was cut to 13 episodes, then moved to Saturdays. But I didn’t know any others were in that bad a condition.

Keepers: Studio 60, Heroes

Still eyeing questionably: Jericho (I’m thinking CBS is going to yank it)

Not Planning to Watch: Ugly Betty, Shark, 30 Rock (mostly due to lack of time than anything else)

The back episodes have not been ordered. However, the back episodes of Heroes has been ordered.

Shows I’m sticking with, old:

24, Lost, House, Boston Legal, Supernatural, Veronica Mars, Smallville, Numb3rs, Grey’s Anatomy…

Shows I’m sticking with, new:

Heroes, Ugly Betty, The Nine, Dexter

Shows I’m dropping, old:

Gilmore Girls, CSI, Law and Order, Scrubs

Shows I have no desire to watch:

Men in Trees, Brothers and Sisters, Kidnapped

I’m almost positive that I read in the WaPo that it was being put on ‘hiatus’, but maybe I’m wrong.

Someone else mentioned Friday Night Lights, which I watched, but can’t see myself watching again. Beautiful teenagers who play a sport I’m not interested in. I just can’t relate.

It looks like “Justice” might be in trouble, but they’re planning on trying moving it to Mondays at 9. Worse news is for “Vanished” which is getting bumped by “Justice.”

From here

My TV watching time is extremely limited. Will continue to watch “Lost” and “Smith”. I’ll watch “Shark” again if I’m around when it’s on. Just recently caught Veronica Mars, Greys Anatomy, and Smallville for the first times (!) and enjoyed those. If I had the time I’d be interested in Ugly Betty and the Ted Danson.

I have seen Heroes, Help Me Help You, The Class, Friday Night Lights, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and Shark.

I liked Heroes and HMHY, and actively disliked the Class, but the rest leave me indifferent. I wanted to watch Runaway and The Nine, but I missed their debuts. I really wanted to like FNL and Studio 60, but they didn’t wow me.

Heroes started real slow.
Shark is predictable but fairly well done. Lawyer shows are beat to death.
CSI istill like.
Survivor is background music. Watch while on computer
Need some new Mythbusters
Boston legal shows no limits to get new. Thats worth something
Baseball was good but yankee bias was annoying.

New Keepers: The Nine (setup numerous posibilities in pilot, characters–with the possible exception of Foote–seem complex but understandable)

Gave up on: Smith (the heists are uninteresting, the characters thin and unlikeable), Heroes (watched it on the off chance they could do something new with the shopworn drama of comic books; they failed).

On the fence: Studio 60 (preachy drama seems ill-matched to trivial subject, but Sorkin can be interesting).

Will watch: 30 Rock (Tina Fey is hot and funny).

Fantastic-show-I-can’t-believe-I’ve-missed-until-now: The hilarious “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, which I only just discovered on FX this fall, so it’s new to me!

TV Guide says Smith has been “sidelined”. I didn’t read any further than the headline though.

I’m loving Kidnapped and will probably get the DVD if/when it comes out. It’s full of juicy little details that bear rewatching. Every character is developing and I’m in love with several of them. Jimbo!

Dumping Jericho – major disappointment. I can’t remember ever seeing anything on TV with so many plot holes. The writers are either lazy or they don’t care.

I’ll keep watching Ugly Betty – it’s different and I like the characters, even the evil ones.

Not sure about The Nine. If it doesn’t get soapy and romancey, I’ll keep watching.

Watching Friday Night Lights makes me feel like I’m buying into something I don’t believe in, so I’m dumping that too.

Avoided Men in Trees just like I’ll avoid anything with Anne Heche in it. If she’s ever in a movie with Jude Law though, my head will explode.

Dexter – hope it’s a huge hit.

Old shows: Veronica Mars, Boston Legal, ER, Lost, The Office, My Name is Earl, Supernatural.

That’s still too much TV.

Will keep watching religiously: Studio 60
Missed the premiere but intend to catch up when I can to see if it’s any good: Friday Night Lights
Caught an episode by accident and, honestly, a lot better than I thought it would be (though still not worth it in such a crappy slot): Men in Trees
I’m sure it has some objective value but actually scores a negative hit on the interest-O-meter: Ugly Betty
Don’t like enough to even bother mentioning: Everything else, including a pre-emptive hit on 30 Rock because I never want Tracy Morgan to be a part of my life, ever again.

New Shows I’ve given up on: Smith.
New Shows I am very close to giving up on: Vanished, since they either killed off the main character or put him out of the action for the duration.
New shows I am sticking with: Heroes, Jericho
Older shows I am close to giving up on: Lost

None of the shows this season have snagged me completely…

The only three which are vying for my time are Shark, Heroes, and Studio 60 but since I’m cutting back on tv time I don’t know if Studio 60 is going to keep me or not. Not because it’s bad, just that I enjoy the other two more.

Liked (will actively watch): Heroes

Ehh (will put on if there’s nothing else on): Smith, The Nine, Friday Night Lights

Bleck: Ugly Betty I know everyone else in the world loves it, but I turned it off after 20 minutes, Men In Trees, Kidnapped

Recorded but so bored by the commericals I deleted sight unseen: Jericho, Vanished
