Update: Circuit City makes (somewhat) good

Not sure if anyone remembers the nightmare I went through with Circuit City a few months back…( http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=10380 )

Long story short, I bought a laptop computer, paid $249.99 for the Extended Service Plan since I’d heard laptops were notorious for screen problems. A year and a couple weeks later (haha) my powercord died and getting it replaced was a nightmare.

At some point in the ordeal, my husband had spoken to a customer service rep and at some point the guy gave us an address to write to to request a prorated refund of my service plan. (In other words, since it was a three year contract, and one year had passed, they’d refund two thirds of it LESS anything they’d spent to service the item. SHEESH!)

I’d written a letter (early April) to the address recounting my ordeal, making liberal use of the terms “Putz,” “goat felcher,” “Karma,” and “How do you sleep at night?” then promptly forgot about it.

Two days ago (July 3) I open the mail to find a check from Circuit City’s “Expense Payables” department for the entire $249.99.

Just thought I’d provide a public service to let everyone know that they aren’t 100% evil, just around 99.99999% evil. (STILL never setting foot in their store again! Grr!)

Glad to see your faith in Corporate America restored. How appropriate that the refund would come so close to the Fourth of July, that most American of holidays.
