Update: MSK's medical anomaly partly solved

OK, I originally started out finding one of these “things” about two weeks ago. Then two more popped up since then.

The good news is: TWO of the three were, indeed, severely ingrown beard-hair follicles. I was able to pluck the left-side one with a sewing needle and tweezers. It healed up completely and went away during the past week. All gone!

One on the right-side I poked and squeezed a few times, last night, and the ingrown hair just popped right out. That hair was really big and had begun to spiral itself under the skin. It’s no wonder it was so annoying. That was is healing very quickly already. Two down, one to go…?

The “bad-one,” as I call it, on my right side, is not likely to be an ingrown hair. This is the original “bump” I found, about 2-3 weeks ago. I don’t know what the hell this thing is! When I originally discovered it, I had then assumed it was an ingrown/infected beard-hair follicle, and made a tiny incision to try to remove it. I didn’t find anything.

Then, after finding/extracting the one big-ingrown follicle last night, I thought that the “bad-one” may be another follicle, after all. The “bad-one” has seemed to have grown since my initial discovery, so if it were in an ingrown hair, that would explain it. So, I sterilized the x-acto blade, and reopened that tiny incision, about 3/16 in. I poked around in there again with a sterile sewing needle, and this time I found something although I am not sure what.

What did I find? well, I thought it was hair at first, but it wasn’t. It’s some sort of stringy fibrous hard tissue stuff. It kind of reminds me of pulling apart a cotton ball.
I picked around at this fibery-stuff more than I should have, but I still didn’t get to the “BB” as I call it. Way down deep in there, something feels very hard & round, like a BB. In my OP about this thing, someone mentioned it could be a fibrous-cyst. That might be what it is, given what I did find. I have been keeping it very clean and using peroxide, antibiotic ointment, and bandages. It’s healing rapidly, but the “stuff” is still in there. What really scares me is that when I poked around there with the needle, there was something very hard in there, probably the “BB” thing, that even the sharp needle wouldn’t penetrate. I looked in the incision with a bright flashlight, and it looked black in there. Dear God, I hope it’s nothing serious.

I know I should go see a doctor. I am getting very scared about the “bad-one.” I looked in the phone book and I couldn’t find any “free-clinics.” I will probably just have to go see a family practice MD, as I don’t currently have one. I can’t help but have fears and thoughts of cancer. Hopefully, it’s nothing serious and can be easily removed/resolved. I will keep you updated. I am going to call my local “Ask-a-Nurse” and see what they can recommend I do and where I can go under the circumstances.

Wish me luck, and if you believe in prayer, please pray for me. Thanks…
Alan aka MSK

{{{Alan}}} Are you near any major cities? There may be clinics you can get to in a larger city. In my experience, many private doctors are also very understanding with uninsured people and will reduce their fees significantly if you let them know it’s a hardship.

If you need to get more specialized care, what department is responsible for social services or public health care in your area? Can you call them and find out about city or county health services? Public facilities aren’t any fun, but you’ll get taken care of, which is the point.

Whatever you decide to do, I’ll be praying for you. Keep us posted.

my thoughts are with you, MSK. if I didn’t hate those huggy brackets so, you would be swamped.

The wound is open. You probably have an ingrown hair in there which generated the cyst you removed. Apply a drawing salve found at any drug store. Stop getting hysterical. You’re not going to die.

Most all Public University Hospitals are required to treat you, even if you can’t pay. The one my SO works at treats honestly hundreds of people each year that cannot pay anything.

“Sterilized” exacto-blade or not (it takes a lot more to sterilize than you think - try boiling it for 20-30 minutes next time), cutting into yourself is not usually good - you really don’t know what you are poking around in, and while you are unlikely to seriously injure youself, accidentally severing a facial nerve would be bad.

Anthracite, I am not going to be poking around in there anymore!!!
