There’s an argument to be made that if you have to be “in on the joke” in order to get the joke, that the entertainer has failed the larger audience.
Well, I think these videos have plenty of funny even for people not in on the joke. However, I think that anyone who has ever taken Theatre classes or Improv classes will think these videos are hilarious.
In these videos, Matt Besser, of The Upright Citizens Brigade, teaches an Improv Master Class.
Now, these videos are works of Comedy Fiction, but The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatres in New York and Los Angeles have offered real classes, putting together actual performing troupes for years. Similar classes are offered by Second City, The Groundlings, Improv Olympic, and countless other organizations. Each theatre has its own philosophy and way of doing things, but the classes and performance troupes follow similar formats no matter where you go.
As someone who has taken such classes, I think these parody videos are awesome. I’ve been laughing my ass off. If you’ve had similar experiences, I urge you to watch these videos.
If you’ve never experienced such classes, I think you’ll still get a few laughs. But for people on the inside of this particular world, these videos are pure gold.
