The Upright Citizens Brigade

I always thought this show deserved a wider audience. It doesn’t seem to be on anymore, and yet a show like South Park remains. That’s rather embarassing.

Well, “South Park” is pretty funny, but I LOVED the Upright Citizens Brigade. And I keep seeing the members appear in other shows (one had a small role on “Frazier” last week).

You should check out their website for appearances.

IMO, that show was much better than a lot of the crap they play on Comedy Central anymore. Same with Dr. Katz.

One wonders whether Amy Poehler’s experience on this show had anything to do with the fact that her promotion from featured to regular player on SNL was one of the fastest, if not the fastest, in the show’s history…

They never give Amy anything good to work with. Everything I’ve seen places her in a very minor role.

Anyway, yeah, UCB is probably the second greatest comedy show of all time - certainly the best sketch type show. I’m a big fan of comedy that’s a bit “out there”, and there’s just not enough of it around.

(In case anyone is wondering, Strangers With Candy ranks as number 1. I didn’t really appreciate it at first, and I can understand why a lot of people would be turned off, but once I started watching it, I was hooked. It’s absolutely brilliant.)

Maybe they should create a network filled with the good shows Comedy Central tossed aside. It could air Upright Citizens Brigade, Dr. Katz and finally, Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Two Words:

Ass Pennies.

UCB still runs a successful theater in NYC. They have a traveling stage show, and Pohler’s exposure on SNL has introduced them to a whole new group of fans. I would be unsurprised if there was another UCB TV show in the future.

Their tv show was a alot of the time a scripted version of a “Harold” which is a classic Chicago Improv format.

I enjoyed a lot of it.

Hot Chicks Room was very funny.
